My husband's friend used a term that I have never heard and I have spent some time looking in the bible to.understand what "slain in the spirit means"? Would you explain where this comes from and what is it supposed to mean? All I can find is that someone gets a "visit" from the holy spirit but has a physical reaction, like falling down?

@@lauriefisher890 that is essentially what the term describes. It is the idea of the Holy Spirit coming "upon" someone in such a powerful way, that they are overcome and cannot stand up. We know that when Judas came for Jesus at the Garden of Gethsemane, they they asked for Jesus, and the He answered, the Roman guards fell backwards as He said, "I am He". Bu that is not the same idea as those who promote being slain in the Spirit. In my opinion, there isn't any Biblical teaching that says that this is the normative experience for a Christian. Certainly, when one is in God's presence, they have bowed to the ground, etc., but what is often prompted as being a sign of being "filled with the Spirit" isn't directly taught in the Bible. Can it happen...yes. Is it taught that it should happen....no. I hope that this helps.
