I just received my Nikon N80 today as a matter of fact. I am trying to figure out manual focus with a manual lens. I got the auto focus to work by just watching this video. Thank You.
@DavidHancock2 жыл бұрын
Nice! If you want to use your lens in manual focus, you just need to turn off the AF (turn it to manual or M) on your camera.

I just picked this camera up. I mounted my 50mm 1.8 AF-S and loaded some tri-x, and the images are great! Best looking images out of all my analog cameras. Only gripe is the size is a bit bulky.
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Nice! The 90s-era cameras did bulk up a bit compared to older cameras.

I see it the other way....I also shoot with an F100 with a battery pack so the N80 feels like a point-and-shoot comparitively. lol. Fun fact: my first digital camera was a Fuji S2, which is exact same body as the n80 so it really feels familiar....yes, Fuji got the bodies from Nikon and stuffed their digital works inside and the camera made very nice images, if you are into vintage digital cameras.

This was a great tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to explain everything in depth. It's so hard and dry to read manuals! I just unearthed this camera from my basement, and will dive into black and white photography this week to keep the pandemic blues away. Thanks!

If I want to make a third exposure (1 more than double exposure) do I set it to -2.0 ?
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
-1.7 tends to work better because of reciprocity failure.

The batteries are CR123A as you had in the video. CR123 and CR123A are different sizes.
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
CR123 and CR123A are the same. Some makers label with and A, others don't. There is another type of battery a lot of people confuse that with the CR123 batteries because it looks the same but is much much larger than the CR123 and CR123A, which are the same size and spec. Here's a more detailed explanation. comparisonarena.com/electronics/batteries/cr123-vs-cr123a/

thaks but how to turn off the flash ??
@DavidHancock11 ай бұрын
In the video's description there's a time-stamp-linked index. One of those items will have to do with flash modes. That section should answer your question.

Hey Dave. Love your videos. I have a problem. I just bought a Nikon N80 from ebay. Not just but maybe a few months ago if I remember correctly. I put a manual lens on it.. Now the fstop in the Digital display in the lcd screen is an f with dashes . Is there anyway to trouble shoot that. I hope i was not sold a defective camera. Thanks in advance.
@DavidHancock2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what it's supposed to do. These don't meter automatically with the manual-focus lenses and require ones with electronic contacts.
@thevoiceman61922 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave. Thanks for the information. Will it effect my photos that way if I manually set the fstop on the lens? I also tried it with an automatic Nikon NIkkor lens and the same thing happened.

Thank you for your video. My N80 frame counter is stuck on 39 and won't move when I take photos. Also, the manual settings I use change back to a default setting after the LCD goes blank. Would you know how I can fix this or what the problem might be?
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For the stuck frame counter, that's probably something that got jammed or misaligned internally. Whether it's an easy fix or not, I couldn't say. The second issues is a bit more curious. If you have full batteriers, I'd check to see if it does that in other modes. If it doesn't and the issues is limited to manual, then there may be an issue with the electronics. That's not something I've run into with this model before.
