Thank you for all of the three guides on the Nikon F80. I own an F65 that came with a camera bag full of expired film, and did not know that this camera existed until a few months ago. I was set on getting an F100 (very expensive) to get more of a closer feel to my Nikon D700. Needless to say, now I own a lightly used Nikon F80 body and I'm very happy with it. I love that it has all the advanced custom functions plus ISO override, easy double exposure setting, rear and front dial, even the threaded shutter release button is a nice add on, It feels great in the hand, not too heavy and the shutter sound is near silent.

Nice! Yeah, this is a great camera and a much better value than the F100.

For those who have stickiness issue on Nikon cameras (N/F80, N/F65, etc): I found that a little bit of 90%+ acetone (nail polish remover) on a lint-free cloth* can wipe the rubber off. The cloth will be covered in the black sticky rubber when done. Isopropyl alcohol and goo gone do not work. *Paper towels or cotton cloth will just cause the lint to be stuck onto the melting rubber on the camera. YMMV. If you have an F6, I'd be interested in your view of it.
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Thank you and 91% rubbing alcohol and a paper towel also work. Acetone can damage some camera finishes so with rubbing alcohol there's less precision required. I would love to get an F6. Right now I have the F through F5. The F6 is a far-off dream, however.

i love all the info you give. maybe you can tell how to remove the battery cover on the n80. thank you

Thank you. Video 2 should show how to replace the battery. Of you're asking about physically removing it from the camera to replace it, that would require some disassembly and I haven't done that.

What does the bkt button does and thank you your explained this verrywell
@DavidHancock2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Bracketing will have the camera take a series of photos at different exposures. For instance, one that's a stop underexposed, properly exposed, and a stop overexposed. That way if you have a high-contrast scene you can take three shots and at least one will turn out.

Great video, but I need to ask: How do I change the setting on the Nikon f80 from DX to FX?
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Do you mean DX and FX like Nikon's terms for APS-C and FF? If yes, as a 35mm film camera it can't use DX lenses (maybe they mount but the image circles won't necessarily cover the frame.)
@dannyb58743 жыл бұрын
DX means decoding film type and ISO from the canister. Not the actual lens for APS-C

Hi, Dan. I’m planning to use a rabbit ear 52mm Nikkor lens. Any tips? Thank you🙏🏼🙏🏼

Make sure it doesn't have a smooth rear face on the back of the aperture ring. If it does, that can damage your camera.

Is there any "Auto Shut off" feature to this N80? My F100 shuts off automatically if the "ON" button was left actuated by mistake. I don't think the N80 has that feature, so battery can be drained by mistake. Any counter evidence.?
@DavidHancock5 ай бұрын
I don't recall. It's been years since I sold this camera, but I don't think it turned off by itself.
@eladbari5 ай бұрын
@@DavidHancock Many thanks for your feedback, David. I am convinced the F100 does have such feature, non related to the custom menu. But, a double check would be sweet, so if you still have your F100 at hand maybe give it a go, leave it on without use for an hour or so and check if it turned itself off :)

I have an f80 but It won't focus and wont take photos, It used to work perfectly and than al of a sudden it won't wind film, won't focus when i half press and won't wont release the shutter when i full press. I have the aperture ring on the right setting so that it lets the camera will connect properly, and i have got it on the focus setting (c or S) but it still won't work, I am hoping someone will be able to help me fix this camera
@DavidHancock4 жыл бұрын
Let's rule out the easiest possible problem and verify that it has fresh batteries. If not, try changing the batteries and seeing if that helps. If so, is the camera giving you an error message?
@danmad6854 жыл бұрын
@@DavidHancock The batteries are fresh but there is a constant E, I am unsure to if that is error because it is where it counts film so I thought it was saying the camera was empty but it has the E even if the camera is off.

Actually, F100 has less functionality. F80 has a nice grid lines. F100 - not. F80 has a AF beam light. F100 - not. F80 has a flash. F100 - not. The only thing F100 is better is 1/8000. But, both cameras suffers from breaking backdoor's pins which almost impossible to repair. So, I think only F5 is worth the money. Especially for nice Color RGB metering. Or okay, F80 because it is cheap. But F100 is just a "style toy" in my opinion.
