Good video David I read about the pollen as well from scientific bee research they talked about what was missing in the hive when u had your dead out during the winter and the pollen is missing. This is what I do to winter my bees, I have open screen bottom boards for all year long and I use a pillow for a moister board on the top I also give my bees sugar and pollen candy board, for just in case they run out of food and also have treated for mites in Aug when I took the honey suppers off, and treated again in Sept, I fed 2-1 syrup finished up in 2nd week of October, this is the time That I worry about my bees I do every thing I can do to help them. and hope and pray they live, but I did something different this year in stead of just putting the candy on the top hive body I put a candy board on every box in the hive If they are being over wintered in 2 deeps they get 2 candy boards one in the middle and 1 on top. I use paper and lay the sugar and pollen patty on top of the frames using a sim just in case. Last year I found they clustered around the candy they stayed there all winter and I would just open the hives and add more and they made out good. But I also found last year I lost 5 doing the cold snap we had here they got caught and could not get to the food, they would not or could not break the cluster to get to the top to get the food so this year I am doing every thing I can think of to help them. I hope they all survive u do a wonderful job with the videos. I think about wrapping them and I dont because every thing I have read says bees die from starvation mites, and condensation and they are going in real strong so I have did all of the above to help. u take care David and thanks again for the videos they are great

It is interesting to see how well this works in your climate region. When they run out of honey, do they move into the feeder or do they relay the sugar down into the hive just like sugar water in the summer? In the NW, you can end up with a substantial number of bees in the feeder. If that happens your setup might have a problem with moisture. If the plastic cover is on, the moisture is trapped up there in the feeder , and if the cover is off or loosely on, they are essentially exposed to the elements since the upper feeder box has lots of ventilation. In the NW one popular solution is to put a moisture board on top of the feeder.

A question on ventilation. Your web site says the Rapid Feeders will fit in a shallow super. I was planning to use the inner cover and set the Rapid Feeder on top of it. But watching this video and understanding how important ventilation is I am now considering modifying some older supers but adding a bottom to them and adding the vent holes to mimic your feeders. Does this sound like a good idea? Or would you recommend I do something different?

I just checked the hives, and noticed on of the hives has about 50 to 100 larvae laying in front of it. We have had several cold days and some mornings in the teens. Pretty cold for Kansas this early. Are these just drone larvae? Some looked pretty big, however there seems to be only on hive doing this. There are deals on all hives, but I expected this, with the warm afternoons and some don't get back in soon enough and freeze.

I live in chatsworth right down from your store so you are my best chance to obtain information about bees for this area. Very Debatable Dave!!! Tom Seely, Frederick Dunn And I use one Entrance only! We Have Used Flir Thermo Cameras We Are not guessing. Watch the countless cutout videos. All have one entrance. All Trees Have the one exit also! Proof is Dr. Tom Seely at Cornell university! The Science favors one entrance. However many people use top vents as well with success!

Would love it if you could watch my new channel. I am a New Zealand Beekeeper so we are in opposite seasson to you, give you something to watch over your winter. I am planning on putting out a clip every week. I am just a Backyard Beekeeper with 10 hives. Although I have a few more currently to sell. Would love your comments as I am keen to learn.

Hi I'm a first year bee keeper i found a few mites on my bees. I also have been noticing that they have been pulling out drones and regular bees that have wings that haven't formed yet wingless bees or very deformed wings

What you are seeing is not wings that have not developed. It's called Deformed Wing Virus. The mites infected your bees with it. If you haven't treated for mites , do it as soon as possible. Sick bees will not live long enough to survive until spring.
