Those are the coolest ramps I've seen. So simple but effective. If I were to build them I think the only thing different I would do would be put cross-bracing in them from top to bottom at a 45°. Great work man.

Oh man I would love this. I have a car that I need to remove frame rust and replace the body mounts. This will make the job 1000% easier.

I'd like to see a cross tube added front and back through which another tube could be slid right across to link the two units together. You could drill the cross tubes for pins with holes in the links every two inches. You'd still have full track adjustability, but the cross tubes would reduce sideways racking and prevent a parallelogram collapse.

I would have loved a pair of these not so many years ago. Nothing worse than crawling under a vehicle with zero headroom. Thanks for sharing.

I used to do it the poor man's way - stask up a bunch of 2x10 boards - staggered slope at the end todrive up onto them. Tody. all thse boards might cost as much as the the steel used in this one and the wood won't last nearly as long :-0)
@kylequinn19634 жыл бұрын
Personally, I'd probably drill several holes on either side and attach a large cross member that you could put some heavy duty pins through to help prevent lateral movement.

Great idea well executed. Rather that lying under a vehicle that's not far from your face, with these ramps you have far more space, almost like having a pit. Great work !

Thank you. The idea is just wonderful. I think right away. that if the center of gravity is shifted back, then no lifting beam will be needed. The car drove in and rolled over under its weight and stood up straight.....I'll probably do it. THANKS again for the idea.

Car showroom use something very similar. Personally I'd add a few cross-members too for strength and safety and you could modify the jacking bar and add another thinner one further along, to ensure the correct distance is "locked in" between them and so that they don't separate ;)
@kevinshasteen56824 жыл бұрын
Good idea but I'ld prefer square steel stock for the framing and cross supports anywhere/everywhere to prevent tortional twisting; all it takes is a one time oops event and you are dead, or mamed for life. Each ramp needs to be locked into the other so no twisting or shifting occurs.
@ianmib5 ай бұрын

Just the ticket. I mangled two mouldy ramps I made out of a manky old car transporter driving my diesel Alfa up on it and I've been eyeballing my scrap pile looking to make simple ramps it won't crush. You've confirmed what my gut feeling the 50x50x3 angle I have is both insufficient in length and thickness. 50x50x5 sounds far better, and it won't be all rusty. Subscribed, loving the delivery, and just enough detail to figure out the bits I need to copy.
@Chris-zm5mj3 жыл бұрын
Looks like a decent idea though I would throw some lateral strength at key points across length and width box sections👍🏼
@ianmib5 ай бұрын
agreed, some cross bracing would make me feel a lot better about those. I am doubtful this is actually 'engineered'. And I dont like the idea of being under the vehicle while jacking it up, there has to be a better way.

The only improvement I’d make is to add a triangulation diagonal between some of the verticals to brace it - it might not need it but I’d worry about the domino effect. Edit, should have read the other comments! 😃
@michiel516011 ай бұрын
The back part is basically a giant triangle and will hold shape. That also means that the top and back vertical of the rectangle up front will stay in place. So if they welds are solid, it can't move. Left to right I'd definitely put in some cross member. Also in the top and bottom. And one in the front rectangle in each side to take some load of the joints.
@ianmib5 ай бұрын
@@michiel5160 the diagonal members of those ramps do not count as bracing, nobody should be using these. Also have you ever seen any engineered device that requires you to be under the load while lifting? This is one of the most ill-advised DIY disasters waiting to happen that I have ever seen on you-tube. But hey, if in doubt just add more metal glue, right?

You're attitude is as awesome as this job. No electricity no nothing. I fucking love it. The leveler is brilliant too. The only addition would be to drop the wheels. I have similar ramps but only raise the car about 300mm so I can lay on my creeper instead of working on your knees as you would. You should add a spacer bar to hold the ramps in the correct spacing until the car is on, this will cut out all the measuring. The spacer bar is removed when the car is up.

A good deign, but with respect one major mistake here though, especially with the height of these ramps. The base of each ramp (in contact with the floor), needs to be around 10cm wider than the top (where the van wheels are), to add sideways stability. As is, the parallel sides make it unsafe. A fluke strong sideways wind against the side of the panel van, might topple the van sideways .

In the "states", our used car lots use this type of ramp to present one of their cars above all the rest... Then they rotate them out periodically. The ones I've seen are long enough that that ramp will pivot down into the loaded resting position, once you get forward of the break over point. I guess yours would also, with a shorter vehicle. Thanks for the video.
