Though I’ve been wakeboarding behind the boat for years, I went to my first cable park this past week. They had us sit start and first go I face planted. I blame that one on the left boot, which I realized was completely coming unstitched when I got back to the dock. Second go…faceplant. Third and all after…no problem. However, it seemed much harder than a boat start. Just as you said, the pull from the water is much harder. The cable is a sudden full speed pull…not like the boat which is gradually moving from zero to pull speed. I watched one of the kids do a sliding start and thought that has to be easier. I never did try it, but I will next time!

How long does it usually take for complete beginners to be able to get on the water and get going? I went for the first time today & didn’t really see any progress throughout the day, despite good help from the instructors. It looks like a lot of fun once you’re able to do it but it was such a bummer that I fell from the start every time.

@DavidOCaoimhWakeboarder5 жыл бұрын
Hey Toby, Yes I do of course! So naturally I'm going to recommend the board I ride (O'Brien SOB). But being completely neutral my main suggestions/ features to try get on your board are. 1. Get a flex board as it's far better for cable than the traditional stiff boards. 2. Try get one with some sort of channel on the underside. This will give you a little more grip than a completely flat board :)

Hey David nice video. Is that new wake board park in Ireland your favorite wake board park or is Ballyhass still your favorite wake board park?
@DavidOCaoimhWakeboarder5 жыл бұрын
hahahah good question. I think it's hard to compare them as they're quite different as one is a 2 tower and the other is a 5 tower cable. I will say the atmosphere and vibe at ballyhass is the best in the world! But the new cable also has a tremendous vibe!

I have never wakeboard in the UK and looking into try it when I go back. Is there any chance you can tell us a few places in the UK that would be good for a beginner? Cheers!
@DavidOCaoimhWakeboarder5 жыл бұрын
Awesome Bella, glad you liked the video. I actually realised that too so thought I'd put a bit of focus into them. Yesss, there's loads of amazing places in the UK. It all depends where you go. If you're a beginner I would advice going for a set on a 2 tower cable instead of a full 5 tower cable as it will be easier to learn. Theres a great website here which show you all the cables so you can pick one near wheerever you'll be www.wakescout.com

Hi David. I had my first two wb sessions at a cable park in Cheshire last week and while I was getting up I couldn't get to grips with using heel and toe for directional control. I have a hernia and have 10kg more weight on my left foot than my right. Is there any way I can compensate for this when riding .Perhaps by positioning the board differently. I used to water-ski quite proficiently and felt that the cable wasn't pulling me up fast enough as the board was dragging through the water. Any tips you can give me before my next lesson?
@roguelegend11755 жыл бұрын
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. Great videos. The doubles ride with Shaun Murray has been my favorite so far. However, I got up on my wakeboard for the first few times last week and I have a few very basic questions. How do I break the board free to initiate a surface 180 or power slide with fins? Should I use fins at all in the beginners bracket?
@christianmccarty62835 жыл бұрын
RogueLegend using fins is completely up to you it’s different for everyone and it depends on your board I ride a Valhalla and the channels are all I need but I used to ride a ronix that had no channels so fins were a must or I would slide around to much and also for 180s you should reduce the line tension and it will make it so much easier
@roguelegend11755 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely give it a try. However, I’m riding a Connelly pure 141 with bolt on skater 1.9” fins. It does have molded fins also. I took the fins off this past weekend and it’s a lot more slippery. It’s a little more difficult trying to stay on edge but it breaks traction from the water super easy for surface slides and 180’s which is all I can do right now.
