I did a strict keto diet for close to 2 years. It was tough but both sides my family have a history of bad diabetes and I was prediabetic. It's been 4 years now and I went back to eating some wheat products. Mainly sourdough bread did I bake myself. It sits in my refrigerator for 3 to 4 days fermenting. Ill eat All kinds of vegetables including root vegetables. More cheese the Frenchman. A lot more nuts than I used to eat. I make and eat kaffir every day. Lots of eggs lots of mushrooms that I grow myself. And meat mainly chicken and pork with occasional beef. For the most part stay away from sugar, rice, and potatoes. Since going off keto my weight has maintained for over 2 years. I'm at the weight and waist I was in my twenties. Without being hungry and without having to having to restrict my calories. I get hungry around noon and then around 4 and then around 8 just like doctor gundries suggestion. Other than that it's water and nuts when I get hungry if I'm up late.. I'll be turning 70 in 2 months. All my health markers are back to normal. No longer pre diabetic. And my acid reflux that I struggled with for over 20 years went away in 2 weeks of starting the keto diet. I check my keytones around once a month with a with a blood meter. Although I am not in clinical ketosis anymore I do have keytones in my system it seems at all times. Even in my yearly lab test it comes up with keytones in my system. Metabolic flexibility that's the key.

The Keto diet is an excellent way to reduce weight and reverse T2 diabetes in a quick time. I used the carb restriction and time restriction diet to reduce my weight and reverse my diabetes. I also increased my animal protein intake to maintain my health and prevent muscle loss. I did not go on the Keto high animal fat part of the diet. Since I got to my target weight I eat carbs , animal fats , fruits and nuts in moderation but I monitor my weight to plus 3 pounds of my target weight. I still stick to my 1 meal a day, 4 hour feeding window. Then I go back to my modified Keto to knock back my weight gain. Then I go back to my eating carbs,sugars , fruits , butter and cheese etc in moderation. What I watch is the scale to monitor and keep my weight in check.I usually take about 3 weeks to totally knock back my weight and about 4 months to send it up by my acceptable 3 pounds weight gain.. Keto is a fast and sure way to reduce weight and diabetes but without the animal fat consumption. Fat is energy and my overweight is all the fat I already have - this is my reasoning for dropping fat from my adapted Keto diet plan.

My mother died a slow death from osteoporosis in 2018. She lived with me her last five years. I worked two jobs while taking care of her and the day job was at a we buy gold shop I ran alone 40 to 50 hours a week. I had a lot of time to try to learn something that could help my mother. She ate very little and had fits six or eight times a year where she would vomit and have diarrhea so bad we would call an ambulance and with strong drugs they would stop it. What I eventually learned was that osteoporosis is not something you can reverse and that prevention is key! I’ve learned a great deal from listening to these two fellas and many other KZbin personalities! Some bullet points for those looking to help themselves, cut sugar, eat in a window fasting as long as possible, cut industrial oils from your diet, plants are your friends, remove plant lectins from your diet, remove grains and gluten from your diet! Gluten is sneaky... they put it in everything! Lots of greens, lots of olive oil, lots of berries, mct oil and deep water small fish that don’t live long. Take cold showers often! Take hot baths Or saunas! Meditation is good! Walking or HIIT weight training whatever exercise you can stand at your age… Exercise, fasting, cold showers… And eating food that isn’t poisoning you all seem to have the same effects

It is my understanding that the blue zones tend to be tradition-oriented communities of people who have thrived from generation to generation by eating a simple, limited variety of unprocessed foods, but they are also characterized by healthy life habits which include daily rituals, mindfulness, prayer or meditation, natural exercise, regular exposure to outdoors and a strong commitment to community. I have always found Dr. G's hyper-emphasis on self-produced supplements, made from rare ingredients gathered from remote corners of the world - a bit suspect. Not saying that these products could not be beneficial, but critical thinking suggests our bodies are basically adapted to run on generally available sources of nutrition, even if those vary in season and locale. The notion that we have to consume expensive cocktails of laboratory-produced supplements in order to thrive strikes me as overwrought and frankly, imbalanced. To be clear, I am firmly pro-free enterprise. I do not begrudge scientists fruits of their research. Having said that, I think that nutritional research at it's best is seeking to find ways of improving health for all people, not just the well-heeled. This is especially important given the rising epidemic of obesity, which is putting the masses of American children at SUBSTANTIAL RISK for diseases and reduced lifespans. This is a concern is often on the forefront of Dr. P's discussions. For example, Dr. P has made special efforts to try and encourage the Biden administration to take into account the latest research regarding the harm of dietary sugars. I respect him for that.

Fantastic, keep up the great work! Build muscle too 💪 Make sure you also get an insulin test, not just glucose/A1C though. You have to see what your pancreas does; bare minimum fasting insulin (optimal is under 7, lower is better). Best test is a "2 hour Insulin Glucose Challenge test" or GTIR. Way back in the 80s Dr Kraft was already measuring both and finding hidden diabetics! "Occult diabetes"
@stanko10 Жыл бұрын
You need to research dr. Cywes and his explanation on protein intake, etc. Basically leave omad and fasting for later (a year even, at least 6 months). Try and spred you protein intake into at least two sittings, do not have it all at once. Otherwise your liver will be converting the excess protein you are taking into sugar, or eventually store it as tryglicerides. Folks do make this mistake, but at the beginning of carnivore you have to focus on eating more fat than protein, for a while. That is the key part in terms of what your body is going through when you get rid of carbs - it's adopting to large fat intake with no carbs involved. You have to let it go through this process of fat adaptation, and experiment (omad, fasting) only later on.
@sylviaking8866 Жыл бұрын
From what I have read one of the problems that can occur with doing the carnivore diet is in fact eating too much protein and not enough fat. The excess protein is converted to glucose, and this raises insulin preventing proper fat adaptation. This may have been the issue with your triglycerides being high. Also, if you had a fatty liver, you will see that all being released. Give your body adequate time to repair before panicking about blood tests. I am doing keto Mediterranean style and will wait for at least 9 months before doing blood tests to check markers for improvement.

Eating a low carb animal food, nuts/seeds, vegetable based diet is not difficult at all. Real whole nutritious food speaks for itself. Feed your body real food and you health will improve. I completely agree with your statement..."eating this way naturally leads to ketosis". I found a lot of inaccuracies and exaggerations in his book such as, having to eat 80% fat to remain in ketosis. It's not the high fat intake that keeps you in ketosis, it's the reduced amount of carbs. I feel he downplayed this in his book and really only honed in on the fat, which firstly...keto is generally only 70% fat and secondly, it is suggested to reduce your fat intake once you have reached fat adaptation. Chickens and ducks too but cows were not that available as they are expensive to keep but oxen can pull plows. Their sweets came from natural pure honey and fruits in season and dried for the winter. Cabbage and cole crops were most often the vegetable and root crops like those things they call "super-food" now, beets! All with LOADS of garlic and onions. Vinegar was another staple of their diet. Our soups are even made with vinegar and eaten cold(little animal fat, just starchy veggies(beans and potatoes), flour as thickener and vinegar...with the standard garlic and onions!. High carb, high acid, cold soup that is the best thing on a hot sweaty day.....chills you and surprisingly will keep you feeling cool...unlike just a glass of ice water. Wow!! what an action packed interview, like discovering a nugget of Gold every Minute. I am 72 now and at around 64 I felt the knee of an exponential curve towards sickness, I had blind spots appearing in my vision (nb: identical and variable in BOTH eyes) I got dizzy by just looking up, my gut was putrid etc. I said to myself "DO OR DIE" so AT THAT TIME I researched (Thank you Dr Perlmutter) and discovered ketosis. In hindsight I would have been smarter to take a more balanced approach but I panicked and I went so hard out into ketosis I would not even let tap water on or enter my body (I captured rain water), my glucose/ketone ratio plummeted below 1:1, luckily for me I was not on any medication. I went through a rough transition including brain fog etc then suddenly just like Dr Gundry mentioned it was like my brain "Woke Up" and my body was so energized I could walk flat stick uphill without even having to breath through my mouth. I lost 25kg in three weeks from over 95kg to less than 70kg. I thought I had cachexia and decided to abort if I went below 65kg. Then I got a major cramp in my leg which was painful and would not let go for a long 5mins ( probably a Magnesium deficiency). So I aborted and re-stabilized to my new condition. Now from this interview it's clear to progress further I need to share the workload by producing MORE mitochondria to SHARE the load, what an awesome discovery (thank you BOTH!! for this interview). Next goal "METABOLIC FLEXIBILITY" without panicking. (Thank you Dr Gundry).and thank you BOTH for such an amazing interview. Interestingly I am also fascinated by Wim Hoff the ice man and have started a WARM wash COLD rinse shower regime.

I did a keto diet, sustainable meats and a lot of vegetables. I had long covid then got a concussion (have had a few), but I lost a lot of muscle and was underweight. So I had to go off the diet and began to improve slowly, but faster. I did the diet one other time and began having neurological symptoms, I felt post-concussive, was dizzy, and having a hard time standing. So went to the Dr, since my blood glucose was so low, I had to go off. I also bonk hard during exercise if I haven’t eaten much and can barely stand. If I don’t eat breakfast, I barely get any work done. I can fast evening to morning, but not during the day.

I would say the following: un-coupling here is used in the sense of what you might do with a passenger train. If you want a longer train to go to two different destinies, you can uncouple or divide the train somewhere close to the middle. Now each of these trains can go their own seperate ways. In any case, you mentioned in episode 129 of your podcasts that Ancle Keys was on the wrong track making out fats as the culprit of becoming overweight. So, having noticed then that Professo Dr. Jutkin was correct and together with Dr. Lustig brought out a book about (refined) sugar, I stopped utilizing a vegetarian lifestyle and switched to a intermittent fasting one because I noticed nutrients were missing from a balanced diet. The next thing I want to try out is adding sources of vitamin A, D³ and K², so I will be targetting sardines with skin and bones, cod liver and (MK) cheese.

Minute 36:00 to 38:00 is the most helpful info. Athletes who ate the same amount of calories had very different results depending on when they ate. The ones who restricted their eating between the hours of 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. had weight loss and gained muscle mass. Also minute 43:00 tells us that fiber eaten in fermented foods is more beneficial to your gut biome.

No you don’t need a phd. Polyphenols are blueberries. So eat more of those. Intermittent fasting means don’t eat until you absolutely have to. Make the time between meals as long as you can prolong it. Eat fiber. That means lots of vegetables. Eat fermented foods. That means eat Korean kimchi-and also sauerkraut and maybe some kombucha tea. I hate the sauerkraut so it will be tea for me. Eat Parmesan cheese and other hard cheeses. Shine a red light on yourself. The only one I didn’t quite understand was the #6, cold exposure. Can someone explain that to us please?

Dr Gundry, I have been listening to you for about 4 years. And in this video you look younger than when I first started listening to you! Thanks to you, I’m looking forward to losing weight, feeling better, having more energy, and living a longer, more active life. I will let you know of my success.

@bourneunited12 жыл бұрын
No need to aim longer regularly. Gundry states there’s not much benefit shown in a smaller than 6 hour eating window. Perhaps occasional long fast though?
@Ganstaz003 Жыл бұрын
Or how about not eat anything at night and instead eat a big early breakfast. I find it kind of silly and pointless to eat before going to bed anyway when that's the time you're body needs the least amount of energy. Whereas early in the morning, if you do eat, even if it's a big meal, one's metabolism will be fastest and they'll be most energetic so that's the most forgivable time to get away with eating the most amount of food.
@cherylbouschor7641 Жыл бұрын
I think the eating window can be whatever works best for you and your lifestyle-it’s the amount of time spent fasting that’s most important. I agree that it would be better for me to start earlier and end by 7:00, but I work until 5:00 and go to the gym after work, so that’s nearly impossible for me. If I was single, I could make this work for me by having a small meal before the gym.

Dr Ben Bilkin says the reason the animal studies showing restricting their caloric intake increasing life span 30% was because they didn’t count the animals that died from infection . If the animals in the study that died because of infection get counted too, then the data showed no longevity advantage to eating low calorie diets.
@MarmaladeINFP Жыл бұрын
Another study found that calorie restriction showed no benefit when calories were spread out across the entire day. It turns out that the only advantage to calorie restriction is the intermittent fasting component. But the benefits of intermittent fasting can be obtained without calorie restriction.

Interestingly twice I presented for treatment only to be told to go home as my body temperature was too high…. I have learnt that keto process of signaling mitochondria has an effect of raising temperature and I’m now left wondering if my analysis is correct especially when “conventional wisdom” was baffled when all usual symptoms including infection was absent?? It is so confusing for someone, like me, who has Hoshimotos. Supposedly the plant-based foods are better for us as humans but they can be really terrible for Hoshimotos sufferers. Our digestive system is inflamed by nightshades, cruciferous, dark green leafy veggies and more. Personally, I love and miss most vegetables but the gut pain I get when eating them just isn't worth it. Old fashioned Keto is the only thing that seems to have healed by gut, leaves me pain and ache-free, and has greatly increased my strength and energy levels. I worry all the time that I'm not eating enough fruits and veg but I don't want to go back to how I was feeling before starting traditional keto. What do you say about people like me???????
@josephcernansky17942 жыл бұрын
I can ABSOLUTELY personally and historically within my family attest to what these two medical scientists are stating.......The only problem with my diet as I got older and left the farm was I continued to drink a gallon of real cow's milk every day and beer....and of course chips and fast food on occasion.....and then the breads and pastas.....but I am beginning to think someone will change their research on that in the future....albeit, people have known for generations that breads and pastas and sweets and beer were fattening.
@allolobophorus2 жыл бұрын
Our huntng ancestors did have a great source of fermenting plants and fermenting milk by eating the content of the digestive system of their prey animals. Also storing food would lead to fermentation. It seems that modern humans cook their food in order to recreate a similar effect as by fermenting, but it doesn't create the same health benefits.

One thing many don't know is that bread was traditionally left to rise overnight. Now they give it a one hour rise and everyone has gluten sensitivities and Celiac's. This is because a one hour rise doesn't give yeast time to break down the gluten to a more easily digestible form for us. I am very sensitive to carbs, but I can eat my own bread left to a slow rise overnight with no problem. It tastes better too.

You cannot burn fat and or make ketones if you eat significant glucose rich food and drink, you know, "carbs". The order in which the body metsbolizes consumed substances is: 1. Alchohol 2. Glucose 3. Fat The reason for this mainly due to the storage capacity for each nutrient.
