Here is a summary of the key points: - MCT oil stands for medium-chain triglyceride oil. It contains fatty acids from coconut and palm kernel oils that have medium chain lengths of 6-12 carbon atoms. - The best MCT for ketogenic effects is caprylic acid (C8), followed by capric acid (C10). Caprylic acid has the strongest ketogenic effect. Coconut oil contains mostly lauric acid (C12) which does not have ketogenic effects. - When consumed, MCTs are absorbed directly into the liver and converted into ketone bodies. This is different than other fats which enter the lymphatic system first. - Ketones produced from MCTs signal mitochondria to produce more of themselves (mitogenesis) and uncouple, wasting energy as heat. This protects and repairs mitochondria. - MCTs can induce ketosis even when carbohydrates are consumed, making them useful for various diets or conditions requiring ketones like epilepsy. - Start with 1 teaspoon of MCT oil and increase slowly, as women can be more sensitive to side effects like nausea. Powders may be better tolerated. - MCT oil benefits brain health and can be useful for those with the APOE4 Alzheimer's gene. It is preferred over coconut oil for these individuals. - When possible, mix MCT oil with healthy fats like olive oil for additional benefits from polyphenols. Start slowly to avoid intolerance.

Not only the people in Papua New Guinea, but also my great grand mother, her 3 daughters and 2 sons lived into their 90's up to 100 years old. They were high consumers of coconut oil and other coconut products. And they were among the hardest (physical) workers you will ever know. In recent years I have been consuming coconut oil regularly. So far, despite a couple lousy doctors I am up to 82+ with older sisters and brother. Coconut is good stuff.

Growing up in the 60's & 70's, there was no discussions on nutrition, so all we did was have normal breakfast, lunch & dinner, and that's how we lived.... My grandmother (on my side) lived to 95... and neither of them spoke of longevity tricks other than telling us to NOT smoke or do drugs and to NOT drink too much alcohol, but that's about it... Well, I took their advice as I grew up to adulthood, so I NEVER took drugs or smoked, and I rarely drink alcohol at maybe 1 drink a month or less because I just don't like the dizzy feeling even after 1 drink, so I avoid alcohol.... So during the 80's & 90's, I just never entertained all this nutrition science stuff and just lived life normally, but I was aware of eating healthy & exercising, so I did, but sure, I ate unhealthy things too... I guess it just wasn't a factor so long as I looked & felt good.... Well, here we are in 2024 and I'm turning 60 years old in August, and I will say that I'm FINALLY taking in all this advice.

C12 has been shown to have antiviral effects, so I use an organic coconut derived MCT oil that contains C8 C10 and a little C12.

@@vivianafelipe5204 I already did...twice, but someone keeps deleting my response. I suspect Gundry doesn't like people promoting other brands on his videos.

I’m turning 79 in November, on a Statin because LDL and Tri were consistently elevated over a few years. But my memory is failing and I’m wondering if adding coconut oil or MCT to coffee in the morning would help with memory or be a bad idea given my LDL and Tri levels?
@thisorthat76262 ай бұрын
@sharonwright7932, please research statins as one of the side effects is that they affect the brain. The brain needs cholesterol, as do the cells in our body. MCT will help your brain as it provides a different fuel source. You probably wouldn't be taking enough to cause significant changes to your triglycerides. The easiest approach is try it and see how you feel. If you find it doesn't help, you can stop. it's food afterall.

Do you have to seriously count the saturated fat content of MCT oils as you usually would? Or can they be neglected?
@beebop980810 ай бұрын
I usually just take a teaspoon or so of MCT. I find nothing offensive about it. Sometimes get a tiny hit of coconut on a clean palate but I love coconut which I don't get much anymore.
