astute catch! Tyrion also describes Cersei as never forgetting slights, "real or imagined"... and all this book Tyrion will obsess over Cersei sending Mandon Moore after him, when Varys himself indirectly names Joffrey as the culprit just last chapter. But Tyrion clings to an imagined slight instead.

I find it interesting how Cersei is described as being able to make herself come across as charming, charismatic, and attractive in the books. It makes her more devious and cunning. Lena Heady was amazing as Cersei but I definitely rarely got that kind of vibe from her portrayal of Cersei. Her Cersei was just all barely controlled irritation and passive aggressive bitchy-ness haha

That’s so interesting you see it that way, I find book Cersei to be a spoiled brat. To me, she’s more annoying than sinister most of the time. I love the way the show portrayed Cersei. She knew she was powerful enough that she didn’t have to fake any pleasantries. The calmness and confidence about her made her more ominous. She was almost always more powerful than the person she was talking to, save her father and eventually the high sparrow, and she knew it. Her mind was always on protecting her children and securing the continuation of Lannister rule. Show Cersei couldn’t care less about flattering someone or remembering to act like a lady. She got off on scaring, controlling, and punishing people and felt no need to put on the charm beforehand. Also, it’s weird to me in that books that sometimes she’s nice to Tyrion or even defends him. I was surprised by that. I liked the consistency of her hatred for him in the show. (Not correcting you, just sharing the way I interpreted her!☺️ I love that everyone reads the same words yet walks away with different feelings)
@mschell80222 жыл бұрын
@@lindsay9838 I think book Cersei is much more historically realistic when it comes to how a medieval noble woman of her rank would be treated and expected to behave. I feel like in the books her angry, hostile, polite-yet-bitter behavior much more clearly communicates that she was forced into marriage and breeding for the sake of her noble House, and this is part of what drives her chaotic resentment. In the books she doesn't love or care for her children because having children is something that was forced upon her. She knows that her children are her only true political strength in the game of thrones, because she is a woman. Although Lena Heady's portrayal was definitely great, the whole portrayal of Cersei "actually only loving her children" and "truly being a mother deep down" (etc) took away from the idea that the character tragedy of book Cersei is that she was forced into a gender role she never wanted and she was dehumanized by being treated like a resource to be traded. Her error is that she reacts to reflecting on this with nothing but a desire for revenge and hatred. I think thats when she stops being a victim imo.
@rapidroadsode87892 жыл бұрын
@@lindsay9838 in the show she seduces cousin Lancel and uses her influence over him to him to give Robert the extra strong wine . She also uses her sexuality to get a navy from euron Greyjoy. She is clearly aware that her sexuality while Robert was alive and her children in the middle of the series and her fading youth fertility and sexuality by the end are her main weapons as a woman . I think the book shows the way women behaved quite accurately in getting what they wanted when they had little rights or say so . And also in juxtaposing that with several women like the Mormonts , brianne and Arya to show that some women will do things the boys and men do regardless of what is tradition .

maybe forcing your son to watch his childhood love getting gang banged is not ideal in establishing healthy child-parent relations, or to teach a lesson unscornfully Tyrion clearly respects Tywin and does his bidding more often than not, yet his reward is in even more scorn and less respect it is a small wonder that there can be no love between them Tywin does not strike me as someone who cares about his family, he cares about securing his dynasty, there's a distinction to be made

I love this type of chapters, Tyrion chapters in Clash of Kings were my favorite. Intrigue + Politicking is peak ASOIAF. So now, Baelish will become essentially warden of the east (he will easily manipulate Lyssa and her stupid son for sure) + has Harrenhal... he's becoming powerful player thanks to the war with Stannis... Baelish must have heard Tyrell plot on Sansa stark from that Dontos guy Sansa meets in Gods wood, he's the only one she shared info with. Also Varys... he said 3 headed dragon, not 3 dragons... maybe he is team Targaryen after all, as he seemed to be in book 1 with Mopatis, in Arya chapter, and here he is trying to play safe by wording the message in a way to make it seem like rumor... so when they actually hear of Danny he will be like "oh my good lords I told you"... or he actually got wrong info. Interested about him the most...

As much as i love the artwork that David has choosen for this channel i can't bring myself to like stuff by "The Mico". It feels unfair as i wouldn't be able to draw a dog and have people recognize it, so i am hesistant to criticize. I mean, the drawings are great in that they make the persons traits stand out but i can't help myself but disliking the comic style on such a dark series. No offense intended to either the artist nor david for choosing the artwork. Edit: i have to add that i don't dislike the drawings in itself, they may be perfect for other stuff, i just can't connect those to the source material.

In my mind I picture everyone in a more realistic manner, so this comic style art does nothing for me as well and it goes a bit inconsistently with other videos, but I imagine it's hard to find uniform artwork for every character although I gotta give it props for respecting the written description pretty well (although I could nitpick Tyrion's hair being too yellow)
