Holding the air cooler whilst putting the motherboard in is actually a good idea. The first time I built my first PC, which was 4 days ago, I actually held it from the bottom and it hurts a fair bit. Maybe also mention the standoffs somewhere in a pinned comment, since extra ones can short the motherboard out, or even break it from bending.

Mine was from an inspiron 3891, i wanted to put it in a new tower because the gpu i bought was too big that it doesnt fit the old tower case but now the holes on the tower case doesnt align with the motherboard even though its supposed to be a micro atx.
@PE4DoersАй бұрын
You could buy a Drill/Tap set for M3 holes. I did that a few years ago and the PC is still running fine today.

Is the E-ATXStandoff the same as a stud? Because I’m trying to install the motherboard but the motherboard is like it’s the tiniest to big to fit with the screws
@PE4Doers26 күн бұрын
Yest, a stand-off is also called the stud. In the 'ancient' days (1980's into early 90's) of PC building, their were many more holes to deal with, so I purchased some plastic stand-offs that connect to the motherboard where there was no hole for a matching stud in the case. That gave a LOT more stability to the motherboard when you were trying to instill the memory DIMMs (back then called either DDR-1 or just DDR). Also, since we had to had to add some 'option' jumpers to support some of the features, it was much easier to get those installed (at least it was comforting to know that the the motherboard was fully supported by the case).

Question : I am installing an MSI Z690 UNIFY, do we install the motherboard "naked" on the chassis frame on the studs of the case and then put "naked" screws in without any isolation ? many manufacturers give some type of rubber grommets and manual is not always that clear to user. do we need to isolate the motherboard from the studs or does it need to be grounded ( metal-to-metal contact ) ? same for the screws : do they need to make contact with the motherboard or do they need to be installed isolated from the motherboard ( hence the grommets ... ?) would appreciate your clarification.
@PE4Doers2 жыл бұрын
"naked' is actually best, since it allows the Motherboard to properly ground to the case. If you are dealing with Hard Storage Drives, then you may want to use the rubber grommets to prevent too much vibration from the Drives to the chassis.

What if my motherboard comes with no screws for installing on the case?
@PE4Doers Жыл бұрын
They usually come with the case if purchased new, not with the motherboard. If not, there are many kits of screws available on Amazon, such as: amzn.to/3Iouvvp There are only two types that are normally used, usually M3 5,6,or 7mm.

@PE4Doers Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen those provided with the cases lately. They are only used when the screw head or stud (under the motherboard) appears too close to one of the non-ground solder joints on the motherboard. I think I used one of them once a few years ago when I was installing an old motherboard in a new case.

What can I do to not damage the Mobo with the standoffs? The io shield on my Mobo is pre-applied, meaning I have to push it to it's place, and it in return pushes back the alignment of the Mobo screw holders with the standoffs Help
@PE4Doers Жыл бұрын
AS long as you keep it tilted about 25 degrees, and push with a steady (but light ) pressure, you should not easily damage any of the lands under the motherboard.
@strokey5284 Жыл бұрын
@@PE4Doers huh. I had done the exact thing multiple times to no avail. I eventually just took the rubbery backend of a screwdriver and lightly bent the io shield holder (which was pushing the Mobo out alignment) and that worked, finally allowing me to screw in the Mobo. Thanks for the reply anyways.
