It seems to me that if you claim that the economy is 'doing okay' (which you do), that is hard to reconcile with the fact that so many millions of Americans are going into debt to pay for essentials. The stock market is a poor gauge of health. Employment and level of indebtedness and cash on hand by consumers seems to be a more accurate measure. Also, the debt burden of the nation has to enter the equation. Hence, I don't think that the economy is 'doing okay'.
@farzana66762 ай бұрын
The stock market is not the only metric. There are other metrics like 2% gdp growth, and low unemployment. In my opinion, the US economy is 6.5/10 right now. Trump wants to take it up to a 9/10.

The key is that it is not inflation but the devaluation of the dollar. A dollar today is worth $0.03 compared with a 1971 dollar. The rise in prices is a result of the devaluation. The "sticker price" on everything reflects this devaluation. Behind all this devaluation has been not only "deficit spending" but the accumulation of all these deficits into the national debt. Finally, the national debt has outstripped the GDP over the past forty to fifty years. ______________________________

Detroit has been deprived during the entire tenure of Maxine Waters. Although the problem cannot be put on her shoulders alone, the matter of Detroit persists. Question: what does Detroit have to lose if the congressional black caucus writes Trump a blank check. Second Question: how much more time does the black caucus need.

The only way out of the structural fiscal problems in the US is to grow our way out. The last administration's high tax and wealth of policies were a disaster. Blue skies ahead 🤩
@matthewh.25392 ай бұрын
The highest recorded us economic growth was when taxes were double the current tax structure. Inequality is going to grow and the middle class will shrink. We are a consumer economy. What happens when the middle class shrinks and real wages of working class doesn’t keep up? Learn economic and history. This won’t end well. “Corporate rate cuts have not boosted U.S. economic growth The biggest recent test case for the theory that tax rates have strong effects on economic growth was the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Among other changes, this law lowered the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. At the time, the Trump administration’s Council of Economic Advisers claimed that “reductions in effective corporate tax rates have substantial, positive short- and long-run effects on output,” primarily by increasing “firms’ investment, desired capital stock, and potential output,” which would lead to “wage increases for U.S. households of $4,000 or more” and “much of this boost to U.S. output may be apparent in the near term.”12 As many analysts confirm, these predictions did not occur. Steve Rosenthal at the Tax Policy Center reports that even a full 2 years after passage, the United States was “without resulting investment or wage growth, or even green shoots.”13

Post pandemic inflation was global and Biden didn’t raise taxes. However, Trump is planning a huge consumer tax that will increase domestic production costs and hamper U.S. exports. We have the proof: Trump’s last trade war cost a quarter million jobs, grew the trade deficit by 50% and ended with a $4 billion bailout to farmers.
