My quest to teach people about the wonders of Indian food in Los Angeles continued as I linked up with the amazing Elise Mosca! Come with me as I eat Punjabi food with Elise Mosca from the hit show Bachelor in Paradise!
For this food adventure, we headed over to Taste of India in Sherman Oaks, which specializes in northern Indian cuisine! We’d be eating lots of bread and rich, creamy dishes, and I couldn’t wait! Inside, we met Sukhi and his father, who are from Punjab.

We watched them make some stuffed naan, garlic naan, and tandoori shrimp. The naan was stuffed with cheese! Then, we watched them make chicken tikka masala, a stir-fried biryani, saag paneer, and much more!
At our table, we had the chicken tikka masala, salty lassi, mango lassi. The mango was so fresh and tropical. Then, we started with the tandoori shrimp, which was so succulent and smoky and full of flavor.
Next was the saag paneer, which is like a creamy spinach dip with fresh cilantro and big chunks of paneer. We ate the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer with the garlic naan. They were like flavor explosions in our mouths! I love the smoky, crispy naan, which still had a bit of doughiness to it.
The saag paneer, in particular, was orgasmic! It was so tasty! Then, we tried two Indian beers: Taj Mahal and Kingfisher. The Kingfisher is my favorite Indian beer. It’s a light lager, while the Taj Mahal was also refreshing but not my favorite.
Next, we tried the baingan bharta (a creamy eggplant dish) with the garlic naan. We also had bhindi masala, which is a dry curry. The baingan bharta was like a thick eggplant stew with tomatoes and onions.
The stuffed naan was like a delicious white pizza. Then, we had the naan with the tamarind and mint-cilantro chutneys. We also tried the pickle, which was tangy and crunchy, and had a bit of spice.
The main course was the lamb biryani, which contained cilantro and caramelized onions. I taught Elise how to break up and mix the meat with her hands. The lamb was so tender, and the rice was incredibly fragrant.
Adding the raita made the biryani very creamy, and the cucumber in it added a nice, fresh crunch! Then, we mixed in the chicken tikka masala gravy!
Finally, we finished up with chai and two desserts: gulab jamun and ras malai. The gulab jamun is so sweet, soft, and decadent. The ras malai was very creamy and had lots of saffron flavor. Then, we mixed the gulab jamun and ras malai, which is my favorite thing to do!
Lastly, we finished up with the chai! What a fun experience teaching Elise Mosca all about northern Indian cuisine!
