Before I delve into my own personal collection I've had quite a few friends reach out and ask about my process of storing and organizing my collection. So in this weeks video I do just that and go through (maybe in too much detail) my process. Please remember that every has their own style and no one method is standard. This is all for fun and maybe you will find part of this as something you want to implement for your own collection. Enjoy and Keep on Pressing!

You gotta go over your TEC coins

That is a great idea thank you for suggesting it. I'm currently working on a video reviewing my **Spoiler** Canadian pressed pennies which I should hopefully have done in the next couple weeks, but TEC coins will be next on the list!

You are a pro collector sir. I’m a couple of years in and still down to the first small booklet. Never have cash on me or the machines are just not around it seems.

I just consider myself an enthusiest of the hobby. I started when I was younger, then got back into it 15 years ago or so. It just starts with a few coins and before you know it your collection will grow. I found when the machines took pennies and quarters it required a lot more pre-preparation to make sure I had extra on hand for any machine I came across. Now that they take bills and cards its a little easier to get but definitely hurts the wallet after a while. Thanks for checking out the video!

I want to do this so dang bad! I have hundreds of pennies from across the country (and beyond) and I swear they are everywhere in my apartment. I don't have any real way of storing them but every time my family goes on vacation they come back with more for me. Just got another handful from Washington DC last week! I'm going to have to look into those flip holders. I can't imagine how long it would take me to catalogue and organize my entire collection!

It's definitely an ongoing project and when you first start it can seem like a big hill to climb. I started with just doing my Disney collection first, and then different binders for certain states. I found that by giving myself smaller collections to work on they were easier to complete and I didn't get too discouraged by the total project. I do think that these cardboard flips and binders is one of the better methods for our collections. I love to hear your family supports your hobby by bringing back pennies for you, that is just so cool. My family is the same way and it helps me get some pressed pennies I wouldn't normally be able to acquire. Thanks for reaching out!

I only have 4 booklets so far, but the booklets are part of the fun! I agree that if I had such a large collection, I would go the notebook route too.

I'll definitely have to work on a video showcasing all the different booklets I have in my collection. Plus I forgot to mention that some of them have unique penny designs right on the cover which just adds to the fun.

Just what I needed!! I've been doing it differently but this is clean and neat. Love the labels. Told you I was going to binge watch. Are there bigger ones for quarters and what do you use to clean your coins? This is going to keep me busy this winter.

I found it useful, I too have stacks of the little books, how do you organize them?
@davidscointravels

Usually I have binders for each US State, and then have separate binders for more specific larger collections like Disneyland, or Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and I even have one specifically for International coins. Sometimes they start out in one binder, and then as one theme gets too large I split it out into its own separate binder. The possibilities are endless and really just comes down to what works best for you and how you find it most useful. Good luck with your collection!

Many of these items are available at local and online coin shops. But I did also update the description for this video to include some Amazon links to the products I've purchased in the past. I hope this helps! Congrats on your new pennies. Did you get all the ones you were looking for during your visit? Disney is a great place to start your collection.

Do you suggest bringing the penny books to the park or the binder?
@davidscointravels
@davidscointravels 3 жыл бұрын
Usually what I do is the binders are primarily for my more permanent storage at home. But I do use the smaller booklets while visiting the parks and then transition them into the binders afterwards once I'm home. A few times I just kept the pennies in my pocket and once home I realized that some slipped out while I was on the tram or on a ride which was disappointing. The booklets are a nice way to keep them safe while visiting the parks.

@@MaidMirawyn That's a good idea. Sometime I used little jewelry ziplock bags to keep them organized while I'm out visiting multiple machines.

I also originally used the booklets when I started my collection as a child. I would only buy the booklets I really liked the image of vs any book. As my collection expanded, I ran out of space and quickly saw the similar concern of the booklets we're going to take up lots of space! Binders pose a similar issue as I don't have shelves and don't want to acquire any for binders. So I went the route of coin boxes. I still use the 2x2 flips and then file them in the boxes. I use file folder labels instead of address labels because I originally had plenty of extras from teaching and then continued the pattern. I'm still in the process of getting bagged sets into flips.

Not to be a nit picker, but the US and Canada never minted or issued "pennies" rather we made "cents" pardon the pun. Yet, the hold over term persists from colonial times.

Thank you for the correction. I'm just so used to calling them pennies, but you are absolutely correct they are "cents".

But any of the pre-loaded machines (which for some collectors is a bummer) are filled with US pennies because the 1 cent coins in Canada can't be legally pressed because of defacing the queen...
