A walk around of my 1976 BMW 2002 showing where these cars rust and what to look out for. I highly recommend a 2002 to any car enthusiast. The value per dollar is great for these cars!

Lovely car of yours in this nice video. No videos for 4 months and suddenly, 2 videos on the same day. You are spoiling us... :)

Thanks man, once I pay off my car I'm getting a 2002. This video is gonna pay dividends when the time comes.

I agree with all of the typical rust spots you mentioned - plus also the rocker panels. 2nd gear synchro is also a common issue.

Agree with everything you said about 02's. I think I've owned about 12 or 14 in my lifetime. My first was when I was 22 and I still have one now at 54 and love them just as much. Really like the split rim wheels on this car. I'm hoping to find some for my #bmw16v02 eventually. Anyway, Happy Christmas David and all the best for 2021!

I remember the small cabin air-exits below the trunk lid, hardly enough for a full car (I liked my extra bought heated window!) and how it lifted the inner back-wheel during fast cornering, at least the 2002 model with two bars, one in each end. And the original seats in front, being too short for comfort for a man of reasonable high, so I changed mine to a special seat. But I liked them much, anyway.

Wow those windows. They don't make 'em any more, possibly just because they need to sell you air conditioning. My first car was a 1985 Autobianchi A112 (yes, Italian guy here) and it had that kind of windows. You don't even need to turn 'em open that much, 10 to 45 degrees is all what you really need. They work at speed (outstandigly) by literally sucking the air from the cockpit and flowing it outside. Back then I used to be a smoker, and I recall the system worked also perfectly in sucking out the smoke and even ashes.

They also rust a lot around floor pan drains when the seam sealer fails! I had a lot of fabrication there when I did paint & body on my 69.

I am really enjoying your videos. Do you know the history of the car? I knew a guy in College in Worcester MA who had one in that color (no aftermarket parts on his car). He was from Columbia and he said the roads were so bad there, that there was no point in trying to bring the car home when he finished school.

Loving your videos, David. Would you be willing to post some resources for buying parts, components, whole cars?

The 2002faq is the best resource for knowledge on these cars. For parts, wallothnesch, Ireland engineering, blunt tech and autohausAZ are all quite good! Hope that helps

Don't forget to make sure the clown previous owner didn't stuff a turbo from a Cummins diesel under the hood...ruins the resale value. I like what you did with the chickenwire headlight guards! Also, there's a little rectangular tube that supports the side of the trunk under the car right behind the rear wheels. These love to rot out because they get blasted by grit all day. And sunroof cars are the best but ya gotta reroute the drains. It's great seeing other creators with a passion for these goofy nuggets.
@davidsgarage4 жыл бұрын
Those are great points! Sunroof drains definitely need to be kept clean. Thanks!
