Another great job! What really surprise me are the people who invest quite a bit of money in expensive shoes, Loake being not very expensive, but nevertheless, not cheap either, but they spend zero time/money in caring for these shoes. I own more than 30 pairs (mostly Loake, Barker and Carlos Santos, and I polish/nourish/brush them off regularly, and use shoe trees EVERY time I have worn them. My oldest pair is 17 years old, and they look like new

I'm the same way honestly, and I take a large degree of pride in keeping my shoes clean, conditioned and polished (plus mirror shining my black oxfords). Shoe trees and proper rotation are a must, and as soon as I get in the door, my shoes are brushed off and the shoe trees go in. I own a pair of these boots, and they actually require special care to protect the burnished finish on the toes and brogue details. It pained me to see a pair in this state where they'd been abused and had never seen shoe trees. If you're spending $500+ on a pair of shoes, you'd think it'd be common sense to prolong their lifespan as long as possible. A ten year lifespan is easily doable with proper care, but maybe I'm just overly obsessive about that sort of thing. On the other hand, it's very satisfying to restore an old beat-up pair like these yourself.

Yep. Spend a decent amount on boots and don’t do anything to them, then spend to get them refurbished.

@@TheRefinedGentleman, I just got a pair of these; what do you use to protect the colour? He seemed to blend two colours, I don't want to do that
@TheRefinedGentleman2 ай бұрын
@marcinrakowski I condition with Saphir Universal Cream as it's a bit more gentle on the patina/burnishing on the toes. To polish, I just use Saphir Neutral shoe cream, buff with a horsehair brush, and follow-up with a cloth if needed. Otherwise, you might end up having to mix various shades of brown. This happened to me when I was fixing a small scuff on them. I know a guy who ruined the patina on another pair of boots by polishing with too dark a shade. Loake usually ships a little book with their shoes that gives advice for care that can be a good reference if you're not sure.

Awesome work and videos on your channel! Your skill level is top tier. Would have been great to see you strip these down and re-welt / sole them, but this was still very good. Nothing like a proper deep clean and replenish.

I discovered your channel today and I love it! A question: 03:16 you show how to remove old layers of accumulated wax to prepare the shoes for cleaning. What liquid did you use to remove that old wax? It seems to work so fast. Where do I find this chemical? Thank you in advance 🙏

In this case I used naphtha. Not the best for the leather, but the customer didn't want to pay too much so I had to speed the process up. After naphtha it's extra important to nourish with a conditioner.
