Today, I've visited a beginner wood carving class held by a senior, very experienced wood carver. While I was learning the very basics of carving, the topic of conversation suddenly turned to CNC routing and that he has a brand new CNC router in the other workshop which he hasn't started working with yet since he lost the translated manual for it and cannot understand English well. Being a software developer, I've no trouble with the language and I'm quite used to getting machines do what I want. Since most of my knowledge of CAM is theoretical (I did a few models in Fusion 360 as a hobby), your videos on Aspire and Mach3, setting up the machine... etc. will prove invaluable for me tomorrow morning, when we've agreed to give setting up the machine another try. Thank you.

Dave I am following this with great interest because I am soon going to build my own CNC. I have followed Dave Gatton's CNC build and his might be of interest to your users as well. I wanted to start all of this, over a year ago, but got delayed so like anything if you don't keep up you lose it. So as I said I am watching with great interest your beginnings with CNC. Just remember those that follow this will have a ton of questions and it is good that you are doing this as a side to your normal channel. Thank you for taking on this endeavor.

Thanks Chuck. Please keep me informed on how your journey goes! I am mixing this in with my channel rather than an aside as I really don't have enough time to do it separately. I still need to go out and work like everybody else to earn an income to keep up with the bills so I create these videos when I get any spare opportunity.

Extremely clear demo Dave Thanks. Also, vague memories of happy days in Oz as well! After struggling to create an array of holes with freecad and giving up on Fusion 360 after a) a UI change and then b) finding the UI would only appear correctly in French (not just me) I watched the array function engaged as smooth as silk. Intend to deploy this on my recently completed MPCNC router. Might be able to afford a beauty like your rig one day but doubt it! Also I've been thinking about hold downs. The ones in your video look neat. Can you provide some info on them? Thanks for a great series of videos!
@DavidStanton6 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. I watched the videos from CNC routerparts before I built mine and they mention rolling the grease gun off the nipples. I did have one come out but there were a couple of spares in my kit so I screwed a new one in. The clamps I use are Festool, you can get them here if you want. amzn.to/2NlISGv

Hi Robert, I had the same problem with my old router. I had bought a new grease gun and the tip has a threaded end. Once on the nipple you can tighten the thread to hold it on then untighten it to remove it. That should help. Ian

@@iancrossley6637 Thank you for your reply. I was not aware that such a thing was available. I have already stripped out 3 or 4 if the fittings and now I put the stripped out nipple in the grease gun and force it into the hole. Not the best solution but seems to work. CNC Router Parts ( now Avid ) sent replacement slider housings but so far I 've been lacking the courage to rebuild the machine. Do you own one like it and if so how often do you grease it? Thanks.

I like your style and the content and I subscribed, but I just finished my CNC hardware and the Mach4 setup so I have a functional moving machine and ready to start the Aspire part. But as luck would have it, you skipped the ONE thing I needed most at this moment. The point at which you are done with Aspire and you save it as a gcode file. There is a process where the file is converted into a g-code file that is specific to Mach3. You mentioned briefly Mach3 arcs mm. I am using Mach4 and imperial so I assume the process is different since Mach4 is a different flavor. Have you looked at the different flavors of post processors and have any insight to share on them ?
