Love your channel David. The top reason I went with the Kapex was that bevel adjustment. It is just such a smooth process to get to the exact angle needed. Better than previously tightening and tapping the saw with my palm to get it where I wanted.

This is absolutely the best video on the Kapex I've seen on KZbin. I've had mine for a few months now and thought I knew everything about it and here you've introduced me to more of it's cool features. On the other hand now that I've seen your table and Systaner setup I think I have start all over again...

I bought my Kapex 120 - 3 months ago and I am loving it. My old one needed replacement and just happened to find Festool and the Kapex. Had never heard of the brand but was looking for accuracy and wow this has it all. Still learning of all the features. Festool really makes me look like I know what I am doing. I really like your style.

I have just got into the festool craze. With a ts55 and a ct26. Not cheap by any means but i must say its blown my mind and wish i had taken the plunge earlier. I am halfway through building a built in wardrobe and was really struggling with controlling tge chipout on the melamine. My god, the ts55 straight out of the box is doing factory edge cuts with the standard blade... every time. Your videos helped me jump into the festool world. Thank you. Will not be my last festool purchase!!

David, Great video on the Kapex 120. I have been looking at the Kapex saws for some time now and have come to realize that there is no other saw in it's class, I have had multiple types of saws in the past and have not ever had any of them come close to the quality and precision that the Kapex delivers. Thanks for the videos. I will be looking for more in the future.

I've just stumbled upon your review as I've never really paid much attention to Festool. I really must thank you and say that IMHO this was one of the best single tool reviews I've seen. It has been a toss up between the Makita LS1219L and the Dewalt DWS780. Now you've just dropped this monster saw on me. Decisions decisions 🤔 Thank you for taking the time to produce such a well planned and informative review. Now all that's left is to hit that sub button.
@timcc0015 жыл бұрын
I have owned the Makita LS1219L for 7 years. I cannot recommend buying this saw. The accuracy is poor and dust collects in the spring hinge area making it impossible for the blade guard to work properly.

+David Stanton - No doubt it will. My 25 yr old Makita compound sliding miter saw was difficult to use with long projects. The UG cart and wings makes it capable, portable, accurate and safe. hi David Nice informative video. Not just can do this and that, but also why and how. I am new to mitersaws, just started using one, but never bored during the 16+ min. I realy like your dustcollecting work in your shop, impressive! I have seen lots of videos about dust control work, ending up being very efficient dust distributing systems. Visible dust collected and fine invisble dust being redistributed or left back in the shop. And the owners being very happy. The mitersaws seem the worst ones to have the dust contained and removed when dustcollecting. (maybe excluding freehand routing). I am going to build one for the shop I use, and are thinking a box and shaped, heavy plast curtain in front. Your solution with the slots is impressing, and, especially the rounding ot the edges. We loose about 50% airflow/sucktion with a charp egded inlet. Yours are the first I have seen having so much areodynamic thinking behind the airflow design. Thank you ToNys

A very good review David. Probably the best I've seen on the saw. You've talked me into it. I've been wanting to replace my 12" DEWALT sliding miter saw for some time. The Bosch Glide saw was in the running because I have several 12" blades and I hate to give up the cutting capacity of my DEWALT but I need a slider that takes up less room behind it. So I guess I will store the DEWALT until needed and get the Kapex 120. Your review made it an easy decision. Thanks. Ron

Hi David, Currently I am working out of a double garage and a servants quarters so I have the small luxury of two workshops.However, the two areas are in disarray at this stage no planned layout. I started several years ago collecting wood working tools but made the mistake of buying a Ryobi mitre saw and table saw. However, my other power hand tools vary from Bosch to Makita/De Walt. So I am an ideal candidate for Festool. I claim once you understand the Festool principals you are essentially a sold man. Where are you based in Auz I am visiting Sydney in December?

Clear and Informative. Thanks for Video. I have had a Makita 10" sliding saw (1019L in the US) for the last 2 years - and I thought I liked it....until i discovered the fence was not 90 degrees (i did took it for grunted and initial check seemed to show 90 with that little plastic triangle that comes with it) .... until my drawers were not quite right...-It was practically impossible to straighten unless i would file the back of the fence to have room to move it backwards. I bought a new Makita base fence which was better but still not perfect. I always thought that the cost for the Kapex was really out of line. Well - I "guess" a cost out of line is better than a saw out of line. The Makita is about to be sold. I watched your video after I made my mind... Still if was good to watch. Nice clean shop too - I never understood the need to have a messy cluttered work space although my gar-shop is not nearly as immaculate as yours. Happy Holidays!

I have the Kapex and your video is first class. Probably the best compound mitre saw on the market and very capable. I found one problem with mine though. I do very fine woodwork making triangle shaped timber pieces that need to be 100% accurate to make a perfect circle. I found that this saw on the horizontal movement when at 10 degrees was up to 0.5 Degrees out from the marks on the base. Easily fixed by using an angle measurer to get it 100% correct, but would have expected this saw to be 100% correct. At 45 degrees the saw is accurate. Just the same would not part with it.
@DavidStanton9 жыл бұрын
Sam Sabastian Thanks for the compliment Sam. In defence of the Kapex, the fact that these saws increments can be adjusted is first class. I understand your disappointment as I was also disappointed when I found the laser was out.... but hey, it made me read the manual and now I am confidant to be able to adjust anything that needs it at home without costly down time by sending it away.Glad you enjoyed the video and please share my channel with your friends and workmates.

the TS 55 tracksaw won me over about 10 years ago when my dad bought one, (im 26 btw and have been working with my old boy since i was 10 or so doing carpentry) Now im out on the field doing my own stuff aswell as with my dad and i do alot of alluminium partition work, glazing channels etc and i was fed up with the sloppiness of the makita dropsaws which are a great saw but so alloy just not good enough unless they are new. I bit the bullet n bought the kapex 120, and oh my god i cannot believe the quality, if you are using it to cut alloy be advised that it sucks at collecting the swarf or dust and dont bother with any other blade apart from the genuine festool 68t alloy cutting blade i just recently also bought the TSC 55 tracksaw with an extra 2 batts and extra charger so i have 4 batteries 2 chargers in total and just wow, old man bought the big router with the accessory kit and that is also an insane bit of machinery im a festool kid, what can i say lol
@DavidStanton8 жыл бұрын
Keep the dust extraction on the Kapex with aluminium cutting. I have seen the result when people do not...the shwarf gets caught in the guard return spring and when the blade is lifted out of the cut, the spring can't compress and the blade collects it...very expensive repair.

Hi Dave, Great video as usual. I am a pro user of tools in the construction industry and own a lot of Festool kit along with other makes too. I love all my Festool without any conditions however, I am very nervous about buying a Kapex 120, simply because I've heard of so many having smoking, and/or motor issues? Such a shame, as I love everything about the saw. Keep up the good work. Regards Steve

Thank you Steve K ! I haven't heard of the issues in Australia maybe because the Kapex here is 240 volts?
@stevek58565 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply Dave, in the UK I know of both 240 volt and 110 volt saws taking a dive. Some owners have had motors replaced two and even three times? There’s a lot of cases mentioned on the F.O.G. I don’t know the percentage? If there were any issues, I hope they have been sorted in the latest version. I guess like most things, it’s the luck of the draw. I was just telling my wife about your workshop, she said “ how many workshops do you need?” Haha!

Hi again Dave, Well I bought the latest Kapex KS 120 REB, and you’re right, it’s a great piece of kit and I’m very pleased. Keep up the great work.

Love the saw Dave, as well as your constructive and informative videos. I have a Bosch PCM 1800SD which I find a bit awkward to adjust and very noisy, plus I'm not entirely happy with it's accuracy either. I believe that you have successfully convinced me that, although not cheap, a Kapex 120 is definitely the way I should go! Cheers, and keep up the great work you are doing.

If Festool improved the depth stop (allowing a bigger range), handle and trigger ergonomics (allowing handle rotation so it's horizontal), and reduced blade deflection, then it would be *really* good. As it is, it's probably the _best_ sliding compound mitre saw out there, but still not as good as it could (and should) be.
@DavidStanton Жыл бұрын
With improving the depth stop, do you mean to allow for larger depth of cut?
@RFC3514 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidStanton - A larger _range,_ especially at the top end (i.e., so you can cut a shallow "trench" in a tall piece).

Thanks for the video :: Have the 120 my self and I did not think of the vernier scale. Neither did I know of the laser adjustment he he he haven't read the instructions of course :) Again good video, love the setup with what is probably kitchen kabinets, maybe from Ikea or something. I think I will copy it when I am going to do my big makover to my shop this fall. Have a free standing woodshop with a full basement, and also an 2 floor with my office, aprox 162 m2. Best regards T.Robertsen

Thanks for the comments! Most of the cabinets I made from scratch in the workshop apart from the sink area and table saw area which were flatpacks. Good luck with your new area.
