This video addresses the procedure to replace the brake rotor and brake pads for the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.
In this video I show how to place the rear electronic parking brake safely into maintenance mode without any special tools or scan tools.
You can drill out the rotor retention screw if it's seized and not replace it. It is not unnecessary to keep the rotor on, the lug nuts will hold the rotor in place. If you do re-install it, use anti-seize like I did.
Use a small sledge to free the rotor from the wheel hub if it is rusted on by striking the face of the brake rotor..
All steps can be performed using standard hand tools.
I have included Amazon Affiliate links below to make it easier to search and purchase some of the tools needed to complete the service.

Thank you for this awesome and detailed video! I just completed all 4 rotors and pads replacement saving me at least $300. Still costed me approximately $300 for new pads and rotors but that includes grease, brake cleaner, jack stands, etc. The torx 30 bits for the rotor and the EPB were a pain in my ass to get free. Tight space behind the brake line for that damn torx bit. 😂

Your tip with the electronic brake worked perfect. Autozone has the brake caliper return tool loaner. The caliper actually has to turn to go back in. This made the job a lot easier. I did not have to remove the electronic part from the caliper.

I strongly recommend against leaving the electric parking brake on the brake assembly while winding the piston. You’ll be forcing the electric motor to turn and could break it or cause a sensor read error. Following mechanics guides, the manual process I show or using the scan tool are the safest.With the method I show, no turning of the piston with a return tool is needed. To each their own, and thanks for the comment.

Very lucky. I ran into a case where the person damaged the epb sensor which was a tough fix since the part basically isn't available. Months later and $$$$$ the problem was fixed. Good video. Rotors don't always come off as easy as shown in your video. A few hard wacks on the rotor's face edges using a good dead-blow 4lb rubber mallet will loosen the rotor. I also found tapping the rotor torx 30-bit set screw with a hammer along with the rust-penetrating lubricant will make it easier to remove the rotor set screw if it is somewhat seized by dirt and rust. Most repair shops won't clean or lubricate the brake system as well as you demonstrated in your video. That's why I do the work myself.

I am changing my brakes on my own for the first time, I don’t have my dad to ask so I came to KZbin to learn how to do it and I’m nervous as all get out but since watching this in depth video I feel less nervous and ready to tackle this project! I didn’t want to pay almost $1000 for someone to change them for me. Since this is my first time and I want to make sure I do this right, do you only need to bleed these or only the fronts?

Did the rear brakes on my 2018 about a year ago. I hadn't seen this video but having done brakes in the past dove into it on my own. My procedure was exactly what was shown here and worked fine. I was a little apprehesive about the EPB but figured what could go wrong. A little grease on the motor o-ring helped install of the motor. The screw that is turned by the motor was easily rotated with the tip of a flat blade screwdriver held into the internal spline. If I recall there are two holes or notches in the face of the piston that needs to be aligned with the matching pins on the back side of the inner pad. This prevents the piston from rotating during operation.

Job complete on 2020 Equinox the only step i skipped was unclipping the electronic cable from the retention clip and after I put it in service mode I put it back together and used a flat head to depress the calibers the old school way by screwing the caliber back on and using it like a pry bar to depress the calibers after that I tighten the two t30 screws hand tight and finished my job and if this helps you only need a t30 screw driver to unscrew it took me like 25 minutes to do the whole job fast $125.00 you help me make

When I push down on the parking brake button a sign comes up saying "parking brake engaged". When I pull up it says "parking brake disengaged". In your video you say to disengage the brake by pushing down. Should it be engaged or disengaged?
@DavidStumph
@DavidStumph 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martha! Odd to hear your parking brake controls are inverted to mine, but regardless of that I can confirm how this should work. Before you start the change, you want to have the parking brake disengaged otherwise you won’t be able to get the parts off. When you complete the change, you’ll want to engage and then disengage the parking brake to reset the parking brake positioning. Hope that helps clarify, good luck!
