nice project. would it be viable to add a charge circuitry for the 3 Ni-MH cells while being connected serially in the battery holder or can these type of cells only be charged per cell ? I've always charged Ni-MH cells individually because otherwise one might be overcharged while another still needs charge so I doubt it could be done.

David, I tend to drill a smaller hole than what I need for plastic (slow drill speed so it doesn't melt) then use a tapered hand reamer to make the hole bigger.

Watt's at his finest! That was super fun to watch and a clever idea indeed. It's a shame those buttons don't light up more though.

Step drills are best for making holes in sheet material, and a bit of water does a lot to stop it melting, as does oil or other coolant but they are often harder to clean up.

Nice little project. I got two of the modules and was looking for tips/ideas. ? Curious, where do you get your components from, after the demise of Maplins? 😥

Great video, I'm sure the kid will love it About the plastic drilling, I use some stepper bits for that now, let's just say I had a very similar experience as the clip you showed ;)

I should have thought that was likely, for me it was as much as a revelation as flux was for soldering hehehe :)

"I manhandeld some of the holes". A dirty Watts is a joy forever! ;) Seriously nice project! And about the bassyness... a little kid doesn't have any bass in it's voice so doesn't matter.

Well, the kid it turns out mostly enjoyed the on/off switch deciding that switching it off broke it and he could fix it again, less so the concept of the recording.

I have to admit... the ON/OFF switch is usually my favourite part of a project too...

A cool kids project. They’ll love playing with that! Only issue I see is that 2 year olds don’t turn things off. So you might need to check battery life. Logical behaviour really. Switching something on makes it work. But turning things off does nothing. :-)

Should call it "Crap Box" or "Crap Recorder" lol I remember using one of those chips about 25+ years ago when I did my HNC in Electronics and Communications, you can also do multiple addressable recordings and play each one back separately.
