As usual the combination of materials techniques and Davie magic. Shows the extra work transforms a simple midge into a beautiful accurate and effective fly.

Enjoyed it, Davie... thank you. From your days of tying on Kamasan hooks, I started having B160's. As you know, a 3x short hook and truer to size, that is available in size #18 if a person buys them as Daiichi 1510. Just got a bunch more of them (and some #16) because I'm thinking maybe Daiichi is stopping offering the #18 as they don't show it on their site any longer. Maybe that is just Daiichi isn't making them now, but will some time down the road. Don't know either way, but I'll be tying some small river midge on their #20 shank w/ #18 gape pretty soon here. Hi Jam C, I have a Paypal donation button on my KZbin home page so when someone donates I send them a number for that months draw as this is my way of giving something back for all the support I get, it also goes to future projects and lessons which I do throughout the year.I'm glad you enjoy the videos.. All the very best Davie..

Really like the look of this fly, Davie,thanks for sharing. Out of interest, how wide do you tend to cut the anti static strips for a size 12 please?
@DavieMcPhail11 ай бұрын
Hi Raymond, I would say around 2mm wide would be ideal though I would stretch it a little if I need to..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..

That looks like a fun fly. Is there some particular quality that the anti-static bag has that is required for the fly? If I don’t have one of those bags, can you suggest a useable substitute? Thank you.
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi FlyTyer1948, Pearl, silver and even a red back will work on this fly and I would say the pearl is the most popular..It's a great style for tying many buzzers in most of the colours you would come across in the water.. All the very best Davie..

Hiya Davie. Great fly pal just a question. What width do you cut your anti static bag. Pal on that size of fly
@DavieMcPhail7 ай бұрын
Hi Craig, For the smaller flies I would cut it to the width of a small tinsel which is about 1mm and for the ones in the video it would be close to a medium size tinsel which is around 2mm..I've heard that you can now buy it on spools though I'm not sure who sells it.. I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie

I've tied this fly , but I like yours better, really a buggy look, nice fly. Davie , have you ever tried tying a banned fly ? I was wondering if you could try tying a Alexandra , I've never heard of a fly being banned before , but it looks looks like a great one to throw, you think you ty one for for us?
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Wan Sak, I have tyed a slight variant of the Alexander which I have attached a link to, I did film it a few years ago so the quality of the video is not as good as it is today but it is ok..I maybe should look at redoing it as it should be done.. All the very best Davie.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJWzdKmtndGFfNk

Great video, thank you. As a relative beginner I’d be interested to know how you would adapt it to a nymph or a dry. Presumably the nymph you would just drop the CDC but how would you adapt it for dry?
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Warren, All I would do to make it a nymph would be to leave out the CDC feathers and for the dry I would add per-knotted pheasant tail legs and lay the CDC feathers to the back like a wing which would float the fly well but you can also add a hackle at the front to help..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie..
@richardduvall65122 жыл бұрын
Great pattern love the video what could you use or would you recommend other than cdc
@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, You could use foam or deer hair instead of the CDC to suspend the fly. Before all of these styles years ago to suspend a fly all I would do is cut the tail off a dry fly to get the body to sink which I would happily do today as it works a treat..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie..
