I can't tell you how pleased I was to see you do this tie. It has been one of my favorite late winter and early spring patterns on the Kenai River in Alaska near my home. Most fry patterns I have seen seem overdressed and swim poorly in the current. There is no mistaking the take when the big rainbows and char eat it! Thank you as well for the many other excellent patterns you have shown. Whenever I want to see a really well-tied fly, you are the man.

I have watched several methods of tying these and tried them all. This method has taught me to USE LESS!!!! 😂😂😂 I will try this way. Thanks Davie. Isn't it a funny world, where I may have never met you (sorry I missed you in Calgary I had to work and live four hours out) but I hold you in high regard not just as a there, but as a Human Being. As I grow older I am reminded of the old saying, "Don't die with regret, for things not done." I used to think that meant I was not living my life completely and I lived with all this regret for things not done. What I really think now, is that we don't have time in our lives to live out all experience, so we do the best we can to make a life a better thing. I tried with Heroes Mending on the Water, you have spent much of your life teaching people to better themselves both at the vice and in the world. I salute you.

Holy Moly. Incredible. That makes an Atlantic Salmon fly look easy. I’ve tied a couple but never with that attention to detail. What I call a rough streamer you turned into a piece of art. Thank you.

Just beautiful piece of work Davie. Dace were the first fly I tied, round 66'. The style was old school at that time. Most of my success catching began with streamers and I remained a streamer fisherman for yrs. Thank you Davie, please live a long life with the wind at your back.

Davie, its so refreshing to see a younger Tier who ties modern technique but doesn't lose sight of the traditional ways of the history of where our sport came from you don't Have to use oragatang for to prove. It you have to know how many turns The rib has to make on the body. Keep up the good work even an old man like me is still learning from you Sincerely Jeffrey Devon

I believe that it was Carrie G Stevens of Rangeley, Maine who was the first tyer to introduce this type of fly, which was "outed" by Joseph Bates Jr many years after, because Carrie never even named the fly. It may have very well been the impetus for Keith Fulsher's Thunder Creek series. She developed it, along with 50-100 other patterns. Just a little history for the type/pattern. Take care.

Hi Mark, It's just a clear coat of normal varnish used in fly tying. The one I use comes from a company called Veniards who are a wholesaler so anyone that stocks their materials may have this varnish in stock..I am glad you liked the fly and thank you for the kind words.. All the very best Davie
