Thanks for tying one from my neck of the woods. I love that you have a photo of it on Stealhead Fly Fishing and Flies by Trey Combs. I can't believe how much I am learning from your videos and I have tied for a long time. A huge thank you for doing these videos Davie.

The Skykomish Sunrise is almost an institution here. I love that you turned it into a Spey pattern, best version I have seen in some time! All of this work you do for us is pretty incredible. Subscribing and commenting are a no cost to us method of supporting you. If you either started a KZbin support account or a Patreon account (I'm sorry to harp on this Davie but I and many others owe our skills to you. We can support you on Patreon with as little as a dollar a month. I find that much change in my laundry. I hope you are staying safe Davie, scary times, I'm tying to keep myself busy. Be well!

A truly classic, west coast, US and Canadian fly . Beautiful, aching to go to the Great Lakes to use one on the great steelhead that reside there as Western rivers suffer the onslaught of civilization. Thanks once again, Davie.

Nice version Davie! I always like to have a few variations of this fly in the box. I work less than a mile from the banks of the Skykomish River & I find It fun to fish this fly in the evenings after work.

I just wanted to note that I’d fish the heck out of it! I believe a fly belongs attached to a fishes lip, and just maybe when it’s retired from constant success or a trophy will it be framed.

@@oak8728 It would be wonderful, if I could do the same. But the idea comes from the fact that we don't have any salmon in the rivers in Switzerland. About 100 years ago they didn't want to come back because of the river power plants and the water quality. I wish you tight lines.

@@GHuber-xh5vv WHAT! Are there any good books in English on Switzerland’s salmon history? I always thought it was from fish farming abuse. We in the states on the west coast have had a bad 4 years going, they’re still out there but harder to find. Come on over, break into your trophy cases and I’ll put you on water that’ll have your reel sing. Are there any anadromous fish in your country?
@GHuber-xh5vv
@GHuber-xh5vv 3 жыл бұрын
@@oak8728 I lived and worked in the states for a few years. I fished on the west- and east cost, in the south and at the great lakes as well as in florida and the caribean sea. So I know the chinooks, the graylings, all kind of bass, the northern pikes and so on. I'm sure, you will get all the information about Switzerland in the web. And the answer to your question: No, unfortunately we have no more anadromous species. But we are working on it.

Hi Jesse G, You are very welcome and thank you for asking me to have a go, as you may see in the main photo of the video I have a copy of Trey Combs book and the Skykomish is in it..With my Scottish accent I thought twice about saying the name of the fly but I was glad you felt I got close...I would be happy to send you one of the flies though you would have to pm me your address as you can't do this on KZbin so if you have a Facebook page you could do it there... All the very best Davie..

Thanks Davie, that was a beauty! I remember tying a "variant" of that when I first started tying flies and submitted it to a magazine. The only hackle I had was pink for a tail and throat, white calf tail for the wing. The thread was black 3/0 and formed the under body. I had some red translucent tubing that I inserted fluro orange floss in and used silver tinsel for the rib. I wrapped the floss filled tubing up the shank and ribbed it in the spaces between the tubing wraps. It looked awesome, like a stripped herl body but with red, black, silver, red, red/orange, red, black, silver, spiraled body. The tail, wing and throat looked ok but it had a huge thread butt and a a massive head from the tubing tie in and off. LOL needless to say the judges either didn't like it or it never met the deadline. Any way I wish I had you around back then it would have sped up the learning process! Thanks for everything Davie, I hope all is well with you in Scotland.

What is the benefit of wrapping the tinsel through the station marabou? You only get about on grab one the circle of marabou and could of stopped the wire before tying the marabou. Is that one wire grab on the marabou wrap strong enough that you choose this method?

Hi Rex M, Ribbing the flat tinsel as well as the marabou will protect them both, this has been done for countless years and can be found in many books, the earliest one I have is dated 1842..Great question and thanks for asking.. All the very best Davie
