Hey Davie, thank you for a very good video. I 'm going to try to tie up my first March Brown and I'm sure your example will help me. Although tying the wing will be the most difficult part! I have used March Brown (done by my husband) on little rivers and it has been effective! Thank you for all the videos for beginners, it's been inspiring and instructive to watch them. I wish you all the best, Pirjo

I find tying thr hen pheasant very difficult. I started throwing looser turns in to start and that helped but they still are not great. More practice needed for sure. Absolutely loving tying this project box although have spent frightening amounts of money on materials. Once you have it though you get alot of flys from it. Reckon I have spent 500 - 600 quid.

I believe there is a typo in the materials used in this fly as the wings are turkey.

Davey just wondering if you ever looked up the spider fly with the two hackles I was talking to a friend about it and he said that the first ones he remembers had gold or green silk for the body's and a black or ginger hackle at both ends and later on it changed to tinsel slim body the bann shrimp it was called for sea trout from size 8 down to 14 . I don't know if you will read this but thanks for all your video get content cheers

Hi Davie As usual beautifully. But if partridge feather by the old formula should not involve other way around? Partridge feather should be separated into lower and upper. March Brown fly a cult! I greet

Alright Davie, are you training up this David Strawhorn? I know you don't look alike but watching you both tie flies it is like seeing a mini-me! He is not yet as polished as you are but he is close and using the same words in his instruction. I know about training up the next generation so I wouldn't be surprised. Have you seen this talented young man? Well I just watched him tie the same fly as this here, you need to see the video. All the best, Sean

Hi Davie, a great video as always!!! I am a fan of the MB wet fly, but I have one question: what is the advantage or disadvantage of that MB winged wet fly compared with MB soft hackle spider wet fly? All the best Jan

Davie, I know this is a basic question, but when I dub material onto my thread I have to lick my fingers a bit to get some friction. If my fingers are dry the dubbing goes flat and doesn't travel around the thread. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Good looking fly Davie, I am going to try it on the English reservoirs when they open in March.... Why did you choose to tie the partridge hackle in by the tip - I am always unsure which way to tie the hackle feather in ...tip or bottom...? Thanks
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 10 жыл бұрын
HiNigel S, I'm glad you liked the fly and that you are going to give it a go.. When I first started tying I didn't tye the partridge in at the tip but after a while I started tying many of my hackles like this as a lot of the very best fibres were there and as well you'll find that the stems are much finer so this makes it easier to tye on... All the very best Davie
