DaVinci Resolve 16 beginner to hero tutorial
www.colorgradi...
As a filmmaker when I discovered DaVinci early on in my career I knew that it would give me a tremendous advantage over others in improving the look of my films. I had done everything I felt like I could do in terms of lighting, lenses and other camera grip gear.
But then something happened in 2010 that completed changed everything in the industry.
I began using DaVinci Resolve when the first version came to the Mac starting with version 8. It has been a wild ride ever since granting me opportunities that I would not have had if I hadn't chosen such a professional tool with high-end color tools!
I didn't shy away from it and as a result I got to work on big projects for Facebook and Instagram as well as color grading different feature films using it.
If you are at that point where you are considering jumping over to DaVinci Resolve 16 with the intent in mind of improving the look of your films and having a skill set that sets you apart you have found the right place.
In this beginner to hero tutorial I hope that you find it as an easy entrance into using the software and not becoming intimidated. We don't want that for you!
If you like what you see and would like a step-by-step guide in going all the way through the software and discovering some of the hidden color grading secrets then I want to invite you to a free online color grading workshop:

You are right trouble is, that it's a very low bar. Davinci 'tuition' videos on 'youtube' are disgraceful, they are not educationally structured. All they have on their pages show the 'features', not how to use it. All any novice needs to know right from the get-go is how to put together clips of video and how to use the audio collected with that video. 'Features', special effects, wiping, whatever that is, can come way later. This is coming from someone trying to do exactly this. I am the classic student, i know absolutely nothing of video editing. I do not need a video to show me the difference between Davinci and other video editors.....cos, I DON'T KNOW OTHER EDITORS! Colour Grading Central, no disrespect, but you seen to be the best of a bad group. Have you heard of the acronym KISS...Keep it simple stupid...

I was afraid of the same thing, but went for it this weekend. When opening Resolve for the first time you can choose "Premiere layout". Import and start editing in the timeline goes without any assistance. Then I edited as I would in Premiere and everytime I couldn't find a tool, I just Google it. After 120.minutes I was able to do a basic edit, and I'm starting to get a real hold of it now by the end of the weekend:)

"DAVINCHI WILL DOWNLOAD IN 2 HOURS" Cool I've never done video before so I'll learn here ....... 25 minutes later ...... thumping head ache. It's now dark. The video I needed to edit has subject matter that only my generation would now recognise. I cant wait till I understand wtf.

After a long time working with Premiere Pro I finally decided to step over gradually to Da Vinci Resolve. The editor is now so much extended in the past years in Davinci and the colortools has always been splendid. Such a easy workflow and thank you for this clear overview .

As a so-so Premiere user, I decided to download Resolve two days ago and wing it . .not! . . got to "Deliver" and knew I needed help. I found it here. Fully charged this laptop and sitting down to my workstation now to follow it step by step as I work through some new footage. Good bye Adobe. Thank you for relieving me of my new found fear factor!
