Davy Jones could be comparable to Gollum from TLOTR/Hobbit trilogy. Just the amount of time, effort and dedication put into the look of such a villian. You'd have nightmares if this character appeared in front of you! Not forgetting Bill Nighy who gave such a menacing, yet tortured, performance!

@@Ashera5469 personally I think they were doing a reset of the board for a new trilogy with four. It’s very similar to Curse of the Black Pearl in that it’s a standalone movie but it leaves the story open ended to continue. I think they could have done another 10/10 trilogy had Gore and the other writers stayed but sadly it was not to be. But you can’t tell me Barbossa with the Queen Anne’s Revenge and Blackbeard’s sword in his OG outfit and peg leg wouldn’t have been sick had he been either the villain of the next two movies or even a supporting character helping Jack and the crew of the Pearl and possibly alongside Will Turner and the Dutchman. Like come on that would have been INSANE but no, they wasted it with 5

I find it poetic that the sword Jones stabbed Willmwith was also Norrington’s sword. The same sword Will forged for him from the first movie. The sword of the only other man who loved Elizabeth.

Davy Jones is probably up there for me with Joker, Darth Vader, and a lot of other cinema’s greatest antagonists. I absolutely love the characterization behind him, as a person who’s been used his whole life, there is nothing but emptiness in his soul. The fact his heart is kept locked away in a box and even the vast nothingness of Davy Jones Locker emphasize that. Even how he was used by the Trading Company at the start of World’s End. Man was a tragic but superbly written antagonist, indeed…

I think that is most saddest thing about Davy Jones, that he fell in love with a goddess but not just any goddess but the goddess of the sea. One who's very nature is cruel and indifferent in one moment and beautiful and calm in the next. And the worst part is? she says would you still love me if I was anything but what I am, and poor old Davy couldn't help but say that she is right. I LOVE this depictions of a true relationship with a cosmic god like being, cause this feels real. Yes they love you, but you are one of many lovers, the fact that she is even looking at you in particular is lucky... and even then they are a god so what does that love even mean? Doesn't even have to be the Gods of a particular nature or culture, that is still a god so I ask again how does a mortal's love even look like to such a being.

Davy Jones has the most impressive CGI of all time and will never be topped. He looks so real. And the story was so good, it was worthy of such a well-written story. The POTC trilogy was a masterpiece that still holds up really well. This story isn't just style over substance. And Davy Jones also works because he is understandable, but his actions aren't excused. He is evil.

Pirates of the Carribbean is a great metaphor for how the hardships of life can shape a man. Hear me out, the large majority of men are born with a big heart and a lot of soul, but much unfairness and betrayal can corrupt most. Jack Sparrow is an example of a man who cared a lot for everyone around him, in the beginning he failed to do one job for the east India trading company out of love for his crew, he chose love of humanity over profit, and was condemned to the life of a pirate against his will. He remained positive, hopeful and still had love, but developed a severe lack of trust, anxiety, and became more selfish. Davy Jones experienced a similar level of hardship and betrayal as Jack, but instead of being able to endure it and remain positive he decided the pain was too great, and closed off his emotions to be more logical and ruthless in his endeavour. He wasn't a cruel man, he could be fair, but he lost the connection to his heart and soul, the connection to his compassion that he saw as a weakness. In this case literally by carving out his heart. Will Turner had an easier and simpler life, he didn't experience as much betrayal as Jack and had more support than Jack before maturing into a man. As a result when he did experience betrayal and unfairness he was more resolute and able to remain more true to his heart and soul. Instead of gaining negative traits they added more understanding and compassion to his character. As for Beckett. I don't know his backstory, but I imagine he experienced very little hardship, and very little love while developing. He was dealt a bad hand that made him think heart and soul were worthless from the very beginning, and so he never valued it in others. He held on to that belief fiercely despite being shown evidence to the contrary because he hadn't personally experienced any real hardship. It's only in the very last scene of him, where his ship is being blown to pieces, that he realises he was wrong. Or... Maybe he was just born a psychopath and had no emotion. I believe the large majority of men begin life like Will Turner, and slowly become Jack Sparrow or Davy Jones depending on whether they can remain positive and bear the pain, or turn negative, seal off their emotions, to free themselves from that pain at a great cost to their compassion.

If men had more support and respect for their sacrifices in modern society, we would have a lot more Will Turners, but that sadly just isn't the case. We now love in a world where it's not okay to hate on anyone for their skin colour, nationality, religion, sexuality, body physicality, career/ambition choice, psychological problems or for being a woman. But it still perfectly acceptable or even actively encouraged to hate men for the unfortunate curse of having more testosterone.

I have noticed something about his theme song that is really interesting, it sounds almost exactly like the finnish/swedish nursery rhyme "vem kan segla förrutan vind" (who can sail without wind) that roughly translated goes: "Who can sail without wind? who can row without oars? who can get separated from their friend without felling tears? I can sail without wind I can row without oars But not get separeted from my friend without felling tears." the melody of the song, the themes of being unnaturally good at seafaring. and if coursw the loss of a loves one and the grief it brings are all clear ties to Davey's story and I think his theme is based on the rhyme.

I would actually consider Frollo a tragic villain because he truly believed everything he did was in the name of serving God but ultimately he becamethe very wicked he claimed he was trying to smite. Esmerelda to him was an evil temptation by the devil so he thought if he killed her, he would be destroying and overcoming his temptation. He also taught that the world is cruel and wicked which couldn't be truer than ever especially when Quasimodo tried to fit in with the crowd at the festival of fools only for the crowd to turn on him, make fun of him & torture him.
