hey man. I really do enjoy your videos. they are very educational and also encouraging. I always see using analog equipment as very hard but you really make it look easy. I have done live sound, which is not hard, but you incorporate the DAW which is awesome and also a bit intimidating 😂😂.

Great video! I'm entertaining the idea of going out of the box. I'm planning to start by putting an analog mastering chain together (minus the limiter, that I really like in software)

Wow. Thank you so much for taking time to clearly explain this. I wish someone explained it this simple in my University Years. It would've not taken me about two years to wrap my head around it. My question is, Would this Alpha Link be compatible with the standard pro tools or would I need Pro Tools HD ? Thank you

Thx for a great video. You opened up a whole new concept for my studio. I’ve had a 24channel EV M4 board for years but only used it for my PA system which I don’t have a band currently so it doesn’t get used. It has a direct out on each channel so i believe it would work? It’s not a balanced out though? Will that produce noise? I only have an 8 channel interface with 8 outs. So I believe fro what you said I could only have 6 ins on the interface because I need to have 2 for the master or summed bus? Thx!

Maybe a stupid question, but recently got back to setting up a studio after 20yrs. I have a Presonus 2442, GL2800 , Apollo Twin and ProTools 2020.I'd like the GL2800 to work as my main, hands on mixer, the 2442 to act as my interface/ with the Apollo(I have ASIO4All) using all channels to record simultaneously multiple instruments. Id like the ability to record it all in Pro Tools, be able to add plug ins and or outside the box rack gear as well. Is this possible? Can the Presonus act as an interface for multiple recording inputs converting signals for Pro Tools? Does this make sense? Im old school and trying to figure it all out. Any help would be a blessing. Thank you in advance.

I am having so many issues with routing my desk into my DAW. I bought myself a lovely Digital desk to upgrade from my old Audio Interface and since then have had nothing but problems. These 2 vids have given me some pointers but I still can't work out the process properly. This makes me sad.

Hey! I just got a small format console to integrate into my workflow. But and having trouble getting sound out of the board and into my speakers. I want to be able to use the master faders on the board as my stereo output, and be able to solo channels on the board and have it translate to my daw, but I think I’m missing a connection. How would I go about plugging in my speakers to the board to then be routed to like my stereo out in the daw? I’m using logic or pro tools fyi

Some would argue that coming out of the box only to back in digitally again causes some quality issues. D to A then A to D. That is quite a lot of conversion. You haven’t experienced this? Thanks 👍🏼
@blakealanfoster
@blakealanfoster 8 ай бұрын
You would think, but dude, conversion is so good nowadays. Even some of the cheapest converters you get in interfaces now are miles ahead of where they use to be and well over what is needed to create a industry standard mix if you know what you are doing. I've seen people create amazing recordings and mixes on 100 dollar interfaces. You just gotta be able to know/hear what you are doing. The problem with digital now is honestly it is TOO clean. It's like watching a TV show on one of those new 8k TVs, it looks so clean it looks unnatural. You don't have to worry about conversion jacking up your signal so bad it is unusable. Sometimes the hardest part is making the ultra clear digital signal seem natural, adding analog and room into the sound fixes a lot of problems. It has nothing to do with the actual quality of conversion.

Thanks for sharing your set up with us man, this is incredible! I want to accomplish something similar but on a smaller scale (16-ch mixer). Most 16-ch mixers nowadays have inserts but do not have direct outs. How can I accomplish getting post-fader/eq via inserts on a mixer of this size? I've read up on Y-cables but it seems like these are pre-fader (not sure if the one click trick changes this)

Do you have any concern with phase shifts by doing the D/A then A/D? Can you send a signal out and back in, then look at the start of the wave on the 2 channels?
@TrueSoundTV
@TrueSoundTV 3 жыл бұрын
First, you can get a phase shift from an EQ, maybe it is possible with a set up like this, but it has never been an issue. Second, people have been doing this for years and years with incredible success, it’s not like this was my creation. Of course there are things that happen through the converting process but with a good set of converters, it shouldn’t be an issue

Am i doing it all wrong or am i ok ? My daw has 16inputs and 16outputs..i have a 16in/out analog mixer, ..all the instrument mics "8 total" go into the mic inputs on analog mixer, each channel on mixer has individual out so i have 8 independent out going from mixer to daw..i dont route back to mixer from daw..i make my recording..mix in daw and record the 8 tracks to a stereo file, other than not being able to use outboard gear are there any pros or cons to what im doing ?
@innocentmwagilo406
@innocentmwagilo406 Жыл бұрын
There you are just using your mixer as a recording mixer. Haven't you ever tried using it for mixing because for me it looks like you have 8 channels left you can send back from your DAW to your mixer for mixing. Maybe since you don't have an outboard gear, it will look redundancy doing so.
