Commando is an 80s action movie that knows exactly what it is, has no pretensions to be great art, and goes for it full-bore. Unlike most of these movies, the female lead isn't a useless screaming bimbo; Cindy is smart, brave, capable and keeps her head under pressure.

@@nigeldonaldson1647 Who is Donna Marie? Why is her name in completely unnecessary quotes? Who cares if someone has a drink? Especially when watching movies like this. What on Earth are you talking about? Why should it need mentioning that a random secondary character actually does something? Though....she DID mention it. And more than once. Did I miss some sarcasm or something?

i'd say when booze interferes with the quality/coherence of a review, is it worth watching it? especially when it's every time , & someone's speech is slurred because of it, & they sound silly & a bit cocky- arent I clever figuring out what's going to happen what does "movies like this" mean? I think COMMANDO is a lot of fun very tongue in cheek its not meant to be James bond or Indiana jones,( I hope that makes it plainer to you)@@ashscott6068

"Remember when I promised I'd kill you last? I lied..." I had a teacher in grade school who would quote Commando relentlessly, so it is ingrained in my memory for better or worse 😅 It's a lot of over the top action with a great cast (Bill Duke, David Patrick Kelly, and Dan Hedeya all delight in their scenes and deaths), a catchy steel drum soundtrack, and more one-liners than you can fire an endless barrage of bullets at (without reloading 😉).

Commando is one of those rare perfect movies. It doesn't waste any time in telling it's story nor does it overstay it's welcome once the conclusion is reached. Everyone involved is aware of exactly what kind of movie it is and had no pretensions of the story being taken seriously. The score is simultaneously oddball and brilliant (those steel drums!!!). Arnold is a force of screen presence all on his own here, with the Adonis-physicality of his musculature and relentless tapestry of one-liners spilling out of the screen throughout the entire movie and washing across you in a glorious embrace of peak 80's. And of course, Vernon Well's Bennet with his chainmail vest is a great foil, iconic on his own as well. For me, Commando is the purest an Arnold movie has ever been, and it never ever fails to entertain.

As many people before me have pointed out, _Commando_ may not be the best film that Arnie ever made, but it's definitely the most Arnie film that he ever made. The ending teases a sequel, but sadly there was never a Commando 2. The film made a good profit, so I can only assume that scheduling or money demands were too much of a problem. We can always pretend that Predator was the sequel! If you're wondering which Arnie film to watch next, I recommend one of his comedies (Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Junior, Jingle all the Way). They are all good fun.

One of my favorite scenes - if you look closely when Arnie blows up the building right after landing on the island, one of the soldiers is still standing. Although Arnie has starred in more high production films, this is my favourite Arnie film. Its got cheese,, cartoon villains, action, mass body count, and those one-liners only Arnie can deliver. I saw this in the cinema in the 80s and the audience had a blast. It was a great time to see movies in the 80s.

7:03 "Right. Let's figure this out. What's gonna happen? How's he get out of this?" Yeah. Because _he_ knows the score. He knows, as long as these people have his daughter, they have no reason to _release_ her as long as he _cooperates._ His cooperation is more likely to lead to her _death_ than her _release._

My class at Camp Pendleton was the last one to live fire the 4 barreled M202 Multi shot flame rocket launcher. They couldn't fix an issue with the rockets seizing up in the tube when launched and it would carry the launcher down range and try to take the Marine who fired it as well.

And there are instructions on the side of the launcher.

Not one of my favourite Arnie films, but "I lied." is perhaps my favourite one liner from him.

This is TOP TIER Arnold. There's more one liners on this one than in his entire career.

This movie is great silly fun. Arnie definitely set the one-liner dial to maximum. Realism be damned. As a wee lad, I saw this in theatres. My mum went with me, and was so grossed out by the combat gore.

2:26 You know, Matrix, lifting a log is supposed to be a _teamwork_ building exercise. "I don't need a team."

You were watching a different version then; I had the original VHS and I’ve only seen the shed scene with the arm amputation.

Arnold only disarmed him. Another guy needed a haircut, so Arnie cut a little off the top.

When the movie came out, Arnold said he cut off a guys arm and beat him with it but said the MPAA had them take it to avoid any X rating.
