Day 90!!!! 90 days ago, I had never opened a bible on my own…. 90 days ago I had no relationship with God. 90 Days ago I had not accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. God uses the unlikely… I have been searching for 40 years! And I’m proud to say that the search is over… I have accepted Jesus as my Lord & Savior. Thank you for helping me “get out of the wilderness”

Deliverer. God delivers Israel time and time again. They sin. They rebel. They cry out. He delivers. They find peace and rest. They forget. The cycle begins again. He is always waiting. He always delivers. He is never far off. He is always waiting for their hearts to remember Him. ❤️

So many say that God does not test us but all thru the Bible it talks about just the opposite. We go thru trials to “choose” to draw closer to Him or stray away. And yes when we mess up, choose wrong, turn away, THEN realize it and turn back to Him, He is faithful and loving to forgive and restore. Thank You Lord for loving me, even when I’m unlovable.

I believe God ALLOWS testing rather than testing us. He doesn't want us to fail or to sin but He allows us choices.

"Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. No one, when tempted, should say, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself tempts no one. But one is tempted by one's own desire, being lured and enticed by it;" ‭James 1:12-14 NRSV‬ "No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it." ‭1 Corinthians 10:13 NRSV‬

The Lord God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, left problems and adversity in the lives of His people “in order to teach warfare to [those] who had no experience in battle…to see whether they would obey the commands of the LORD” (Judg 3:2, 4). Paul in Romans 7 cries out that there is a war within himself between his sinful nature and the redeemed, Spirit-equipped self who God has made into a new creation (2 Cor 5:17). If I think that my life and who God wants me to be involves nothing but comfort, it’s like living in a house that I never clean or owning a garden that I never weed. The Lord’s character is to teach me to rely on Him to fight for righteousness, to “take every thought captive,” to fight for love and peace and beauty in my marriage and not ignore the subtle ways of selfishness. “Consider this, you who ride fine donkeys and sit on fancy saddle blankets…Recount the victories of the LORD!” (Judg 5:10-11).

For me, it was that while the Israelites constantly turn their back on God, He never truly turns His back on them. Like any parent, He disciplines His children, but is always there to get them out of trouble when they are in over their heads.

I like Deborah’s traits: great judgment, 4:5; reminds people of God’s commands, 4:6; shows no fear and tells the truth, 4:9; follows through, 4:10; and reminds you that God is with you, 4:14. She loves God, loves people. We should too.

God is awesome. My favorite judge is Ehud. Dude is left handed which is rare to begin with and we know about handedness in our society, but in that time period left handedness must have been seen as a defect. God chose a “defective” person in the world’s view to conquer the enemy and bring peace for 80 years. We are all defective to the world but can and will equip us and He calls us. Plus Ehud is just a bad dude plunging that short sword into the belly of Elgon. It’s awesome.

At the end of Judges 2, the Lord says, "I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died, in order to test Israel by them, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the Lord as their fathers did, or not." (2:21‭-‬22) So, as we get to Judges 3, it says, "Now these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan." (3:1) God was testing Israel's faithfulness. We don't get too far before finding out that "the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth." (3: 7) So, the consequences start. Israel does what is evil in God's eyes, and Israel is punished by being taken captive by one of the surrounding nations. It's a recurring cycle of peace, disobedience, captivity as a consequence, Israel crying out to the Lord, and then He sends a judge (military leader) to save them. The king of Mesopotamia takes them. Othniel is raised up to save them. Then, they rebel again, and the king of Moab takes them into captivity. They cry out, and Ehud is raised up to save them. Then, we get a brief mention that they were saved from the Philistines by Shamgar. Next, they rebel once again and are taken captive by the king of Canaan. During this time, a woman named Deborah is the judge over Israel. She is a prophetess, and she summons Barak to give him a word from God. He is to gather his troops to fight against Sisera, the commander of the Canaanite army. The Lord is handing over Canaan to Israel. Instead of Barak being obedient and following the word of God, he says that he won't go unless Deborah goes with him. Deborah does go with him, but she rightly predicts that whatever praise he could have gotten will be given to a woman instead. Judges 5 is a song about that victory of Deborah and Barak. This continual cycle that Israel finds themselves in shows the human heart. We are just like that today. But God continues to give tremendous grace and mercy. I am so thankful that God doesn't leave us where we are.

I saw God as our Strengthener in today's reading. It had always ever occurred of course as He strengthening the Israelites, their main reason for subduing kingdoms as well as kings but we also saw it here today in 4:23. Truly, na who God dey with dey grow stronger just as Isaiah says "those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like Eagle...." Thank you TLC, you're constantly opening our eyes to see things our minds/brains ain't even drawn to. My prayers are with you 🙏🏽

one extra commentary I love from the story of Jael killing Sisera, is that: it's not enough for the enemy to be defeated, as Barak defeated Sisera (Sisera symbolizes the enemy, or sin), but you have to truly KILL the enemy as Jael did. = don't just defeat the enemy/sin, kill it entirely 🤝

The story of the battle against Jabin are bookended by two strong women, Deborah the wise judge, and Jael the wife of a Kenite. Did Barak need their example to accomplish God’s will? Perhaps so. In Hebrews 11:32 Barak is described as a man of faith. I think maybe his faith was built upon the example of these two women.
