Great tutorial, thank you! Just a heads up, took me ages to realise they switched from defining circle values as radius to diameter in the later version of the app. For anyone struggling with this, just double the values for the circles given in the lesson, then the geometry of the piece will make sense.

If your drawing doesn't look anything like his, your circles measurments are probably diameters and his are radius. There is a settings to change the default imput. Really sucks that there don't seem to be any 5.5 tutorials because it seems a number of changes are making these classes harder to understand.

5:58 Hi, I‘m trying to create the upper arch. BUT. For me i always have a convex arch, no way i can get it convex. It says it’s blocked even though i did not intentionally block it…. I’m using the software on the iPad with Apple Pencil, so not sure if that’s a difference or not. What i see you’re doing is just “move the arch line up”/ convex, but that does not work for me. Instead the points on the 2 circles right and left drift outwards, though still fixed on them, but more outwards from the spots where i started from…. Please help :D (if that. Wasn’t too confusing :D )

It is unfortunaetly a bit different when using iPad/Apple Pencil. You may want to draw the concave arc above main circle, then manually add a constraint to connect the arc end point to the large center circle after the fact. Hi Eazy Shot. If you're using the Apple Pencil, use the Line/Arc tool in the Sketch menu to draw arcs in your design. Draw the arc just as you would with a real pencil on paper. Thanks for your kind words! Yes, Shapr3D could be used for CNC plasma projects. However, if that is your course focus, I would honestly recommend Fusion 360 over Shapr3D. I’ve only copied others designs prior to my first print 2 days ago on the 10 day course
@PDOShapr3d Жыл бұрын
@@bobbytalbert2778 There are some core concepts that carry over. But the interface and many other best practices are unique enough that I would suggest making a choice now before you get too deep into one or the other. One pro for Shapr3D is that you have the iPad version. Fusion 360 does not have iPad/tablet version and its very likely they never will. If you plan to use it while traveling a lot, then that is a deal breaker for some. F360 also has sheet metal, Manufacture (CAM) workspace and other advanced things (simulations, etc). Any of those sound like they would be useful to you in the future? That may be a deciding factor as well. I do have a '30 days' series where I teach Fusion 360 similar to this 10 days series. kzbin.info/aero/PLrZ2zKOtC_-C4rWfapgngoe9o2-ng8ZBr&si=WShoIVbnBdsumdXG You could watch a day or two and see some of the contrast in style. Sometimes people find one more intuitive than the other for personal reason (familiarity with other software).

What is the point of using constraints in the sketches? I mean I can see the point in using them to get the sketch to do what you want eg horizontal/tangent but as updating a sketch does not affect the solid bodies surely if you want to edit your models you have to use direct modelling as opposed to editing the sketches?
@PDOShapr3d3 жыл бұрын
Great question! You're correct - the intent is that you can drive your sketches with specific 'Design Intent' before moving on to 3D bodies. Keep in mind that although the 3D bodies to not update automatically in a parametric manner, you can still re-use sketches to create new/separate 3D bodies. Being able to update them quickly with the expected design intent is still a great benefit. Of course, it would be ideal if Shapr3D became truly parametric and the 3D bodies auto-updated as well :)
@gavspav3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm wondering if you have to think/design differently using direct vs parametric modelling. Would be a good video! Direct seems a bit simpler for simple models but when things get deeper it can be hard to adjust models. For possible consulting work with better CADCAM companies building their next generation CADCAM systems. I see Shapr3D as the kind of CAD that's going to be needed for CNC machinists who spend most of their time on the shop floor. I wish you were doing these tutorials using a tablet and a pencil because I see a big market for very robust shop floor based CADCAM that has dramatically better workflows than currently exist. An example of a better CAM workflow would be interactive, solid cut part, G code based, simulation as you create your tool path, not at the end when you do post-processing. Obviously this means immediate G code processing will be necessary as well.

Kevin, Are you able to easily modify dumb imported solids in Shapr3D? Any limitations? What iPad model would I need to purchase to properly run Shapr3D? Will older iPads work well enough? Same questions for Windows Surface. I want to be using a pencil. I currently use an old version of FeatureCAM for several reasons: ITAR data I dislike Autodesk immensely for how they destroyed Delcam. I'll never forget what Carl Bass was like to communicate with... world class prick who had zero understanding of what tools are needed for a machine job shop the uses horizontal milling machines with tombstone pallet pools. You need a tombstone module to be efficient. Featurecam has a tombstone module. So does Gibbscam and Edgecam. Mastercam doesn't. Fusion 360 doesn't. I've never seen CAM that runs inside of Solidworks or SolidEdge have a tombstone module.

@@JonBanquer You'll want to import a STEP file. If you imported a 3D model in STEP format, the hierarchical structure of the source model is retained in Shapr3D.
