I like your videos of the GDMBR. If every thing will went fine I am planning to participate in the Tour Divide in 2023. Your videos are helping me to prepare for the track. Good lack.

What a great day of biking. Glad to hear the Wahoo is working out. I'm still trying to make up my mind. That camp spot was awesome for sure. Glad it's all working out so far. Take care, Al

I'm rewatching your series, preparing to go back this summer. This episode was great. Nice to be able to meet Matty Freedom. I remember riding that stretch from Eureka to Ford's cabin- one of my favorite parts.

Thanks for the update. The sound of tires on gravel and a bell. Make you sound like a one-track Santa, bringing gifts to all the boy and girl grizzlies.

Great start to a great ride! I always have a bandana and buff with me to soak in cold streams and tie around my neck. Cooling your carotid arteries will cool your core. Matty's got a lot of tail wag going on! Nice camp spot!

Before you hit the gravel those tires were screaming. When you got to the gravel the scenery exploded. The camp site already had the fire ring. Water resupply looks like not a problem at least for this stretch. Your living the dream.

Montana is a bike tour dreamboat. Matty thought I was a car behind him because those tires were squealing. They don't sound like that anymore.

Great ride and 65 miles done. As others have said in the comments on really hot days i soak my shirt in water, wring it out a bit and put it back on, aircon on a bike! I find it works best with cotton you might get 30mins or an hour before its totally dried out. Synthetic type fabrics can dry out in minutes on a descent and dont work as well. I also soak the legs of my shorts but not seat area.

I'd keep the maps or at least the sections you're on as the ACA maps are great for seeing the bigger picture and facilities along the route. Also, a backup in case you have electrical issues. You can send some of the maps ahead to pickup at a post office further down the trail.
@TravelingThru222

The maps have proved to be almost essential for camp spots and water. Glad I have them along.

Great video, can’t wait to see the rest of the trip. Thinking about doing the gdmbr myself - do you think a 520 with 2in tires would do alright, or too rough?
@TravelingThru222
@TravelingThru222 2 жыл бұрын
The GDMBR is the roughest thing i have ever seen, ridiculous climbs, water crossings, you name it. I wouldn't do this on anything but a mountain bike, 29 er. But there are people out here with fixed gear, single speeds, and trailers. This route can be done on anything, but it is the hardest mountain biking of my life.

What size is your krampus? I see surly now has it available with a suspension fork. Would that have made the ride better for you with the rough roads?
@TravelingThru222
@TravelingThru222 10 ай бұрын
That’s a medium Krampus, I’m 5’10”. Carbon fork. A shock makes anything easier, but the Krampus is a heavy slow bike. Like riding a tractor.

@TravelingThru222 I have an XL size Bridge club with 27.5x2 tires. Got a butterfly bar instead of the Salsa bend bars that came with it. Also have a jones h bar 2.5 with clip-on aerobars for my long selfsupported future tours. Would love to do the GDMBR in the future but need more bulletproof wheels and tires then the stock WTB ST i29s.
