Visit Valmasino-Val di Mello ,the Yosemite Valley of Europe,in the Lombardy Alps,after the Lake of Como, nord-ovest, Valtellina. Not far from Varenna.

We finally did our visit to Lake Como Varenna Yesterday, with a 2 nt stay in Varenna. We went to Bellagio and liked it better there and spent most of our time there. If I were to recommend for someone, my suggestion would be Use Milan as a base and make a day trip to Lake Como. Trains from Milan Centrale run almost every hour and takes 1 hr 15 mins to Varenna for about 8 Euros. Take the early AM train, and once you land in Varenna take the ferry Round rip to Bellagio Euro 14. Spend time in Bellagio, come back to Varenna, take a walk around the lake spend time and take a late evening train to Milan. My personal opinion Varenna is hyped too much and there is more to have a good time in Bellagio. My 2 cents. Our trip plan US to Barcelona then to Milan - Lake Come then tomorrow headed to Cinque Terre (the Italian Riviera, then to Nice, Cannes, Marseilles (french Riviera and then to Alicante Spain and back to Barcelona and head back to US. We had the best weather last 9 days of our trip and hope will be the same for teh remaining. If any one interested in our route we did in 3 weeks feel free will be happy to suggest based on what we planned and learned.
