Day 1 - Off The Rhayader

Welcome to my channel if you’re new here, and a big thank you to all of my subscribers for being part of the growth in this channel.
At last, we’re free to roam more freely within the UK, so I dusted off some routes that have been previously researched and used in anger several times by some of my local biker mates. Due to previous work commitments, I had not been able to join them on those trips.
So, my touring buddy, Wayne Morris, joined me on this four-day trip and we based ourselves in the mid Wales town of Rhayader. Day One, we rendevouz at BMW North Oxford before heading West as quickly as possible via Gloucester. We then rode via the Forest of Dean down to Usk in Wales, then headed North via the Gospel Pass before looping back S.W. across the Brecon Beacons to Glynneath. Another stretch N.W. before going Northwards again to Llandovery and Newbridge on Wye, on our final stretch to ‘The Elan Hotel’ in West St, Rhayader LD6 5AF. T: 01597-811208 and ask for Landlord, Martin.
This route can be freely downloaded from my MRA account via the following link. It has been created within the ‘MyRoute-app’ routing tool and has been checked for compatibility with Garmin & TomTom GPS units.

Just got back from a trip down that way. The A4069 was superb (I came up up the other way, from Llangadog)... almost alpine in nature. And wonderful views from the top. Looking forward to the rest of this series... 👍

Nice first episode and looking forward to the rest. I rode over the Gospel Pass in Feb 2020, just before the World changed. It was a lot more muddy then! It is the highest pass in Wales, higher than any in the North. If you watch the film American Werewolf in London, you should be able to spot the scenes that were filmed up there. 😎

Great video Paul. Almost identical route into Wales with mine which I did a few days later in the heatwave. The only difference is we spent time in the Wye Valley instead of going over the Gospel Pass (you can only do so many miles in a day); I think we made the right choice!

​@@raybridgman995 Hi Ray, I've had no response from MD, Michel. Also, contacted Serge at MRA but they said only MD deals with Partnership issues such as this. I can only think that they might have removed my discount because I recently requested a refund for their Navigation app, as they were unable to get it to work properly for me (probably just my iPhone model). I'm still an advocate of the MRA routing tools, so suggest you use their free version for now, get on their emailing list and wait for one of their regular 'deals' to come up. Apologies. Paul.
