A fun subplot that’s I’m enjoying right now (in part because it involves my favorite wrestler lol) is Tamawashi clawing back from his 2-7 start. Won 3 straight now and his KK hopes are still technically alive. Gonna be hard, but if he get his KK by winning his last 6 that would have to be one of the most impressive comebacks I’ve ever seen. As the for the yusho… I’d bet Onosato gets it. This dude is gonna be Ozeki come November so long as he stays healthy.

Tamawashi is my favourite as well and I'm rooting for him! With the win he got yesterday, staying in Makuuchi is already granted so at least he won't fall to Juryo. Tamawashi getting closer to several longevity records is a fun sub plot in every Basho.

Often as non Japanese, i am saying to myself : fgs, what do i watch sumo ???? Because it's unique !!!! As i promoted since monday, i bet on a playoff at 11-4 and Hoshoryu (and Kotozakura), so an ozeki, to win at the end.

Yeah he changed up and choked in the middle this time.😄 I like him but it can be heart breaking.

Just psyched that Hoshoryu could still win this thing... hoping for an 11-4 playoff vs onosato!

kotozakura hasn't looked as good this basho and not sure why he keeps going backwards right after initial contact. he's done it three times this basho and two of the times it almost lead him to losing.

Trying to predict where rikishi end up is a bit like trying to juggle soot.

Did we get a fresh from the shower quick strike? Still a really nice suprise start to Friday morning. Was not expecting a quick at all.

Yup! (the hair takes a while to dry...)

So unfair for Takerufuji! Surely Winning the Emperor's cup in your makunouchi debut apparently happens about once a Century.... Surely a one-basho demotion-free grace period to recover from injury wouldn't have been an unreasonable concession given the circumstances?

They used to do this. Look up "kosho seido."

Natto spoiled us with his most excellent coverage and info. I've had to become nocturnal to catch the live stream but I'd pay to have Natto's morning after vids back.

I used to follow all the US sports. Gave all of that up twenty years ago. Started watching Sumo late in '17. No more of the ego driven contract hassles, inane commentary, and billionaire owners sucking the public dry for bigger stadiums.

@@wrisky While that may be true, the Japan Sumo Association, which runs literally *all of* professional sumo, is basically all but a glorified Yakuza clan in terms of crookedness.
