The Catechism in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)

Күн бұрын

This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB.
📖 Follow along with the official Catechism in a Year Reading Plan (AscensionPress...)
In this summary of the Church’s teachings on Baptism, the Catechism relays the heart of the sacrament. If you needed to quickly explain Baptism to someone on the street-Fr. Mike says-this would be your guide. Fr. Mike hones in on the fact that Baptism is “a grace and a gift of God that does not presuppose any human merit.” Today’s readings are paragraphs 1275-1284.
Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
Ascension is committed to creating media that helps Catholics grow in their faith. Catechism in a Year promises to do just that - that’s why, no matter what, we’re making it. This podcast is free and always will be. But, we have limited resources. With funding from generous supporters like you, we can do even more than simply create the podcast. Would you consider supporting Ascension’s free media? tinyurl.com/2s.... No amount is too small!
Although not tax-deductible, the financial support we receive goes towards the creation of podcasts and videos that help Catholics grow in their faith. If you’d like to learn more about what we do with gifting, go to AscensionPress.... Thank you and God bless you!

I was baptized because someone(s) wanted me in the Kingdom of God before I could choose myself. So that prayers and blessings and excorcisms from demons of the unseen world would not have a natural dominion over me. I thank You very much Jesus. Thank you for putting these lessons together 🙏 Oh my Jesus, grant me the grace of sincere conversion and strength of perseverance to live out my baptism. St Raphael the archangel please bind the demon asmodeous and minions attacking families and potential families, send them to Jesus for immediate sentencing for the glory of God. St Michael the archangel please bind the demon Baal and minions of idolatry, send them to Jesus for immediate sentencing for the glory of God. St Gabriel the archangel please bind satan and minions of lies and send them to Jesus for immediate sentencing for the glory of God. Mary please send a special troop of warrior angels to bind all spirits attacking me, my family, and all participating in CIAY. Please send them to Jesus for immediate sentencing for the deliverance of the Church. Amen.❤❤❤

June 23, 2023 Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer: (According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.) The Prayer of St. Gertrude Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen. God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.

She’s where I was 10 years ago. She’s so sweet. One part of the ceremony I put my hand on her shoulder & make promises to her. She actually shed a tear; I did the same thing when I was a candidate. I had prayed & prayed for a candidate I could serve & to whom I could be a real help.🙏❤️

Day 174 takeaways: SUMMARY of Baptism - There are 3 Sacraments of Initiation- Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist. These Sacraments begin a new life in each of us. Baptism is a gift and does not presuppose any human merit. Every Sacrament we receive is a response to God’s invitation. God is actively seeking and inviting us into relationship with Him. The Fruit of Baptism is 3-fold - 1. The forgiveness of ALL sins, both Original Sin and Actual sin. 2. Birth into a new life as adopted Children of God. 3. Becoming incorporated into the Body of Christ. Every moment of life should be an offering to God.

If baptism takes away original sin, and original sin (the inclination to disobey God) causes us to commit personal sin, why do we continue to commit personal sin after baptism?
@wms72
@wms72 Жыл бұрын
We continue to sin because we are still broken, still tempted, and concupiscence (the inclination to sin) remains to be battled until death, so that we grow in virtue with every sin resisted. Original sin is not "the inclination to disobey God." Original sin is the state of alienation from God, the absence of God's life in our soul.
@KenDonovan-jw2jk
@KenDonovan-jw2jk Жыл бұрын
Agree with @wms72. A useful analogy for the effect of Adam's original sin is lack of inheritance due to the action of an ancestor. Adam was given certain spiritual gifts, including his justification with God as well as protection from concupiscence and mortal decay. These gifts were intended to benefit Adam and be inherited by his descendants. SInce Adam lost those gifts due to his original sin, we could not inherit them (through no fault of our own). Through Christ and baptism, the worst effect of original sin is removed since we receive the gift of justification / salvation. However, we do not receive all the gifts that Adam had, so we still suffer concupiscence (inclination to sin) and mortal decay. Also, note that concupiscence does not cause us to sin, it is an inclination to sin that we can counter through God's grace and by practicing virtue.

Question: Children, especially babies dying without Baptism, wouldn't they fall under those who die without knowing the Church and will be saved even if the have not been Baptised. #1281 and #1283
@KenDonovan-jw2jk
@KenDonovan-jw2jk Жыл бұрын
God can save whoever he wills, however the Catechism distinguishes between adults who are actively seeking God, so the Church is assured of their salvation (#1281), versus children not yet capable of moral reasoning where the Church trusts and hopes (#1283) because of the mercy of God. #1261 expands on this teaching: As regards children who have died without Baptism, the Church can only entrust them to the mercy of God... ... allow us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who have died without Baptism.

As for the begging for forgiveness of God, if I do not not daily beg God for His forgiveness for the great injustice I've done to him by my wrongdoings that nailed Him to His Cross then I'm not worthy of His Kingdom because I've forgotten my humility in the face of His humiliation. There's a scene in "Dances With Wolves" where the mule driver is shot repeatedly with arrows and he cries out, "Look at me!" Doesn't the the crucifix many of us see upon our waking say that; "Look at Me?" When my dog has done something wrong, I look at him and say, "What did you do?" and he will beg me not to punish him to his crate. Doesn't the crucifix we wake to ask, "What have you done?" those similiar words asked to Eve and Cain by God. Who are we not to daily ask God for His forgiveness? Who are we not to receive His mercy daily as an expression of His love for us shown us in the Crucifix? May Psalm 6 be your daily prayer. "Be not overwhelmed by the circumstances of this life but be overwhelmed solely by My love." Be blessed, Live blessed; bless others.
