If the Lord is God, follow Him, if it is Baal follow him. This seems to call for complete commitment and service to our God, not wavering or looking to other gods and I need to remember this in my personal walk-to be sold out to the one true God and Him only will I serve.

I often wonder how Elijah who had such great faith to call down fire from heaven was so afraid of Jezebel….🤷🏼‍♀️. Just shows Everyman of God is still a man who is nothing without God!!!!

As much as I've learned about Jesus through reading about the sacrifices, these chapters are my favorite of all the Old Testament. Reading about Elijah's test with the prophets of Baal was phenomenal. Even more so, learning that God has a still small voice takes the cake for me. LORD, help me to know Your voice and to follow where and when it leads Amen

My God shot is actually my Jesus shot this morning. In another group we are looking for and seeing Jesus throughout the old testament. So today in: So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God. 1 Kings 19:8 NASB1995; reminds me of when Jesus was led into the wilderness for 40 days and nights!🫶~↘️✝️⚫↗️↘️

My God shot today was how the Lord dried up the brook to send Elijah to that woman so he would "revive" that boy so she would believe in the one true God. Sometimes the Lord sends us somewhere we don't want to go so He can showcase His power THROUGH us so more lives can be saved! Wow.

Elijah was a bold prophet and a man of God. I couldn't imagine standing up to all of those false prophets as he did. But, Elijah walked in the strength of the Lord, and God showed Himself who was the One True God! Elijah also challenged those around him to make a decision. This is true for us today. We must choose whom we will serve. As Christians, we are to be wholeheartedly sold out for the Lord. We must have faith in God through Jesus Christ. I think of what Joshua said, "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." When Jezebel threatened his life, Elijah was afraid and ran. But even in his fear, God was with him. It is so encouraging to me that no matter what threats we may face in life, God is with those who fully trust in Him. He is ready to speak to our hearts. The enemy's attacks usually comes after a great victory. Such a great podcast today. Thanks be to God that He is always near. Lord, help us draw near to You that we can hear Your whispers. 🙏🏽

I always pray to the LORD and remind Him of my denseness, I tell Him to be loud and clear that I may actually hear His direction for my life...I never thought to ask Him to help me be so quiet, so cal, so close, so near to Him, that I can hear Him in a whisper. How you bring me from laughter to tears, Tara-Leigh! Your wit was hilarious (“Upgrade!” “Let me whip up a meal out of thin air!” “Maybe he’s on a bathroom break!”), and then--then you remind us that after the thunder and disaster, then God draws us so close we can hear His whisper. I don’t know why He uses tragedy and sorrow to pull us closer in intimacy with Him, but He has in my life, and I’m grateful for it.

God blesses others through our obedience, just as He not only provided for Elijah but also the widow. What faith the widow had to use all she had left for her and her son to feed Elijah first. How amazing God was to continue to meet their daily needs after her obedience.

I love Elijah, he’s a weary warrior who has served God with a passion that’s hard to envision today. But Elijah seemed to think he was the only one: ““I have been very zealous for the Lord God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have abandoned Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they’re looking for me to take my life.”” ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭14‬ ‭HCSB‬‬ But God tells him: “But I will leave 7,000 in Israel - every knee that has not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”” ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭18‬ ‭HCSB‬‬ Elijah felt alone and like he was the only one serving God and tell him “I got 7,000 more son! You are not alone and you’re not the only servant.” My God-shot is this: let us not ever think we’re the only ones faithfully serving God and let us always remember we are not alone and it is important to connect with other believers.

If TLC’s passionate exhortation of God’s nearness doesn’t move you, then Rita Springer’s “Fed by Ravens” will: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2XRXqOObpqNgcUsi=xZWy5zArqS0BLsS1 Imagine that following God means that you’re exiled to the wilderness, but God delivers daily nourishment in a way that you could never imagine. If there was one thing that disappointed Jesus about His disciples, it was when He asked why they had so little faith. He knew He could raise Lazarus because Elijah raised the widow of Zarapheth’s son. God’s word shows us that when He calls us into desolation, that He will be there. “Is God still good?/ Oh, I know He is.”

God showed those Israelites who was God of gods as He took up the sacrifice Elijah has prepared! I love how she points out those "fence sitters." I know too many of them today. In my Bible at the beginning of Ephesians, I've actually drawn a fence and labeled the fence as Satan's... Satan owns the fence. When we have chosen God, YHWH, we are totally in His yard, not hanging out on the fence anymore. (Ephesians 4;17-to the end calls us to live according to life on His side once we have chosen to jump off that fence.) I long to continue to hear God in the whisper when the noise of the world can be so loud.

Day 178 We see King Ahab was God’s least favorite king so far. God has Elijah tell King Ahab that He is sending a drought on his kingdom. God then tells Elijah to leave and sends him far away. God has the birds bring him food morning and night, wow. But then the creek dries up from lack of rain. Obedience to God doesn’t guarantee that all will go our way. God sends Elijah up the coastline to a widow and her sons house. God sent Elijah to get something from someone ( a widow) who had nothing. God multiples the widows food as she shares with Elijah. This is the same God who made it rain food for 3 million in the wilderness for 40 years. Providing food takes no effort for God. The widows son gets sick and is near death. God uses Elijah to bring him back to health. In year 3 of the drought God tells Elijah to go to King Ahab to end the drought. Ahab blames the drought on Elijah instead of God declaring it. It is Ahab’s sin and idolatry that has caused it. Elijah tells Ahab to bring all the prophets of Baal and the people to Mount Carmel to see who is the real God is. Elijah tells the people no more fence sitting. Pick a side. Worship the true God or the pagan god Baal. Worshiping the true living, God requires exclusivity. 450 prophets of Baal sacrifice a bull. They slash and cut them selves and bleed freely. They call out to Baal for hours and nothing happens. Elijah taunts them and tells them maybe their god is asleep or is on a bathroom break. Elijah sets up an altar. He makes the people bring 12 jars of water to pour over the sacrifice. This was especially extravagant because they were in a severe drought. If Yahweh can burn drenched wood it shows all the more His power to the people. Elijah prays to God and fire falls and burns up everything, even the surrounding dirt. The people declare that Yahweh is Lord. Elijah orders that all the prophets of Baal to be killed. Elijah tells King Ahab to go eat because the drought is coming to an end. Elijah whole heartedly believes God is sending rain. He asks his servant 7 times to look for rain clouds as he prays. The rain comes and the drought ends! Ahab tells his wife Jezebel all that Elijah did. She promises to do to him as he did the prophets of Baal. Elijah is afraid and runs for his life. He prays alone in despair and wishes to die. The enemies attacks often happen after God’s great victories. An Angel of the Lord wakes up Elijah and feeds him. Elijah goes back to sleep and the Angel wakes him again and feeds him. Elijah leaves and travels for 40 days. He is fasting for 40 days! Elijah is in a cave and sees a great wind, an earthquake and fire. But God was not in these. God was in the soft low whisper. So many times this is how God speaks to us. In the midst of our chaos, in the quiet whisper. When we are quiet and still enough to hear Him. When we pay attention and actively listen for His voice. God sends Elijah to 2 Kings and a prophet. Elijah will mentor Elisha the young prophet. God can be big, do mighty miraculous works. He is also small, in the quiet whispers. Elijah leans in close to hear God. Elijah was so close he had to cover His face. God gives us that kind of closeness with Him when we intentionally seek Him.

The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. 1 Kings 19:7‭-‬16 NIV bible.com/bible/111/1ki.19.7-16.NIV

You state in the video that Elijah requested that 12 jars of water be prepared but scripture states in (1 Kings 33-35 ESV) that 4 jars of water were requested and prepared and only 3 jars were poured out fulfilling the satiation of the wood and trench surrounding the offering.

Reread 1 Kings 18:33-34. He told them to fill four jars with water and pour it (all the water) on the offering and on the wood. And then he said, “Do it a second time.” And they did it a second time. And then he said “Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time. 3 x 4 = 12

I had to add somethings to this, first, Great minds think alike, I thought it was cool we had the same God Shot, second, because of it, it brought me a lovely memory of how "the still small voice" became my favorite way of looking at God. I love to sing in a chorus, and I used be a part of a local chorus here in my hometown, Called the Kalamazoo Oratorio Society, we did two performances a year, one was "The Messiah", the our spring performance was a different one, the first year I was in, we did Mendelssohn's "Elijah", and I fell in love with the chorus, "Behold God the Lord passéd by", so thank you for my earworm of the day
