So the God of the Old Testament is judgmental and harsh, but the God of the New Testament is merciful? The Lord is forgiving and merciful, and never changes. He gives even inveterate sinners like me another chance-the peace and healing of forgiveness, even after idolatry. He does this so that “you will know that I am the LORD” (1 Kings 20:13). He reveals Himself through His lovingkindness.

This is why it is important to repent for our sins & pray for our children. It is never to early to teach kids about repentance for themselves and to pray for others. Yah knows hearts. We have seen so many times that he forgives.

Not only pastors are held accountable… we are called and chosen and held accountable for allowing those in our lives to walk without knowing the truth of Gods word , living in darkness with them when we know the truth that will set them free. We are to speak Gods truth in love to those who are living in darkness. We are all held to a higher standard to live for God, to be set apart and not conformed to the world or accepting of sin.

😄 There should be a saying, something like - "Don't build bazaars for yourself in Damascus." It would be a way of saying we shouldn't make compromises with the world, and we shouldn't make agreements that God doesn't approve of."

Despite Ahab's wicked heart, He still showed amazing grace by allowing him to win the battle against the Syrians. Unfortunately, he wasn't completely obedient. Ben-hadad, the king of Syria, was supposed to be destroyed. Instead, Ahab made a covenant with him and let him go free. On top of that, he took property for a man (Naboth's vineyard). His wife Jezebel clearly ran the show in the household. Her evil plot to have Naboth killed unjustly shows how evil her heart is. I'm still amazed that grace was again shown. Ahab humbled himself after being told by Elijah the prophet that disaster was going to come to his household. God didn't relent on the punishment, but He showed grace by delaying it so that Ahab didn't see it happen during his lifetime. That is such a good point about leadership and the weight of responsibility that it carries. I am so thankful that God is so patient, kind and merciful.

Praise God for mercy and forgiveness. Ahab’s repentance reminds me of the thief on the cross. God loves us and wants us to repent so that we won’t see disaster. God forgives, even on the last day. Believe/trust God, repent, be forgiven and receive eternal life. “And when Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and went about dejectedly. “….Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days;…..”” ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭21‬:‭27‬, ‭29‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭42‬-‭43‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I struggled with today’s reading. I was thinking God would rise up someone to defend Naboth and surprised he was stoned and died- though he was obedient to the Lord. I like the comment God doesn’t let sin go unpunished and it’s not always in our lifetime. Interesting reading today.

My God shot today is in 1 Kings 20:13 - “Thus says the LORD: ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today, and you shall know that I am the LORD’” God gave wicked King Ahab victory, to teach him, HE WAS THE TRUE GOD! Throughout this passage, I see God showing authority, love, and grace. Plus, Mercy…oh what mercy! I thank Him for the mercy He shows! I know sin has consequences, but by the grace of God, there is forgiveness available too! Praise be to the Lord!

I have to be honest, I find it really challenging that some guy who wouldn't punch a prophet in the face gets struck by a lion, but Ahab gets let off the hook after all his abominations... But perhaps that's because I'm more interested in justifying my own 'minor' disobedience than humbling myself before God's holiness and being in awe of His indiscrimate mercy 🤔

God is indeed a patient and merciful God. But my Godshot is found in v11... And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off. Even though King Ahab is a serial sinner himself but his reply here was worthy of note. Let no man boast until God has given him the victory. How sweet!

There's a powerful secret that makes God pay attention and causes God's mercy to come on a person. It's like it's a "weakness" of God. Whenever God sees it in a person, God can't resist it. It's called BROKENNESS or HUMBLENESS King David discovered this secret long ago. He said in ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart- These, O God, You will not despise. That was what King Ahab did here and immediately God showed Him Mercy. He Is Where The Joy Is

Today's God shot broke my heart. God delayed His punishment and let Ahab's children "get it?" (Message translation) I'd rather "get it" for my sins than know my children will pay for my sins. I'm a mother and I love my children more than myself. That's heart breaking to me.
@rosaseni1174

But your children also wouldn't "get it " if they humble themselves and repent of their sins. God is righteous, he doesn't punnish anyone who is without sin.

Ahab said to Elijah, “So you have found me, my enemy!” “I have found you,” he answered, “because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord. He says, ‘I am going to bring disaster on you. I will wipe out your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel-slave or free. I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and that of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have aroused my anger and have caused Israel to sin.’ “And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: ‘Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.’ “Dogs will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds will feed on those who die in the country.” 1 Kings 21:20‭-‬24 NIV (There was never anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife. He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites the Lord drove out before Israel.) When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly. Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.” 1 Kings 21:25‭-‬29 NIV

How is it “merciful” God spares Ahab from his original fate that God decried only to impose it on the innocent 2nd generation? 🤔

We are born into a broken messed up world. God is fair, life is not. We can’t get that mixed up. A lot of the world’s problems are results of sin from past generations. That’s our own doing not Gods. And he loves us enough to give us that free will.
@DonZimmerman52
@DonZimmerman52 14 күн бұрын
God did the same with Solomon and his son, and his son deserved losing the kingdom due to his bad judgment. There’s not an implication that Ahab’s descendants will be innocent. If they repented and turned to God, then God has already proven His merciful character by forgiving evil Ahab, so it is likely He would forgive a repentant son of Ahab. “All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved” (Joel 2:32).

God is always just. Id bet God would give mercy to any one of Ahab's sons if they also showed repentance and humility before God. Since Ahab DID show humility before God, part of the punishment is deferred... But, like TLC always says: we never sin in a vacuum. It's heavy knowing that our sins can hurt our children. Id bet Ahab is feeling that weight and realizing just how much he has screwed up. God sees people's hearts and knows what we will do before we do it... I trust He made the right decision.
