sometimes they do that as a water run off for the purpose of not getting water in the basement. dont know if it applies to that property

That's actually a good idea. This is behind the garage so not near the basement, but we do get some runoff on that side so it's possible. Not as effective since dirt has piled up over it unevenly and it all pools in sections, but it does slope in one section. I'll definitely keep this one in mind. :)

Cool! Do you intend to restore this path or whatever it is?

I'm kind of waiting to see what it looks like at the end. I'll either keep and restore the path, or use the brick for another project. Either way it will be used. I'd like to restore the path if it makes sense though. :)

Why are you doing this to start with? Did you not like the grass? Are you just curious to figure out what happens if you dig up your entire back yard? Something else?

A dozen or so times when I have dug for planting something or anything else on the property I have hit brick/pavers. All in different sections. So I hit some the other day and decide I would just dig out the pathway/whatever it is until I actually uncover the brick. It's not that I want to dig up the yard as much as the drainage is terrible in the back (probably because there is a brick layer under a bunch of the grass) so I'm on a fact finding mission and will decide when it's uncovered if I want to keep the pathway or dig up the brick to use for something else and install some drainage to direct water away from that area of the yard.

@@CognitiveWhirlwind Yea, that would be annoying for sure. Good luck man! Will be interesting to know what that was back in the day.

Definitely. The house was built in 1959 so it's been here for a minute. Haven't been able to see much in satellite images thus far. Hopefully it looks more clear as it gets uncovered. I feel like it's just going to be a path way, but it's a strange one for sure.
