Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. I do not know all their needs, but you do, Lord. I offer them to you with confidence that you hear our prayers. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, discerning, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand and revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Please send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Please give me the grace to set aside my intellect and my know-it-all attitude and let your Word speak to my heart and my soul. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Thank you and praise you for the gift of perseverance and for nourishing us with your word! Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.

Thank you for the BIY it has deepened my awareness of these peoples as my ancestors and how what they experienced speaks to my life today, in similar ways to how my parents and grandparents lives and choices speak to me. Fr. Mike: Thank you so much for blessing us with God's Word. We also love your commentaries! Fr. Mike's reference to Job is a good explanation for critics of the Bible, and can be used in response to critics on other 'errors' in the Bible. However, it isn't necessary here. 'Prince' Nebuchadnezzar's father was still alive and was the reigning 'King of Babylon' at this point in time (612 BC). After conquering Ninevah, Nebuchadnezzar could claim the title of "King of the Assyrians" because he was sitting on the throne in Ninevah while his father, King Nabopolassar, was reigning in Babylon until his death in 605 BC.

To whisper something implies that it is not to be shared, I like the word whisper, we know that those in love whisper sweet nothings, which actually does not make any sense, as you can't whisper nothing, but that's love for you❤ Us Brits invented Chinese whispers, as these people were hard to understand😲 no offence, probably can't say that these days, never the less the game is about how whispers change when shared, which perfectly illustrates the proverb. George Michael sang about 'Careless whisper' same thing. On a positive note there is a chocolate bar over hear called Wispa, rather nice actually.

Great reminder that God loves us and does everything for us joyfully. *_ Proverbs Ch16 Verse 25: The way seems good but the end is death. Whisperers divide friends- gossip leads to misunderstandings and breaks friendships. We must indeed not be gossiping ourselves and pray for those who gossip so that they change their hearts. *_ Jeremiah in Ch32 shows his faith in God by buying land as he knows that God will bring back people even if he's not going to return. Verse 27- Nothing is hard for God. Everything is possible *_ God doesn't resent when blessing us but rejoices when blessing us. God rejoiced even in pain as Jesus on the Cross because He was happy to save us. *_ Great insights about the book of Judith and how it is like the book of Job that tells the truth of God and how God is. Judith seems to show the violent nature of King Nebuchadnezzer. Thank you FrMikeandTeamAscension. God bless you and the fellow listeners

A woman went to her confessor and confessed she had been gossiping. For her penance she was to go to the top of a tower with a feather pillow and break it so all the feather would fall from the tower. Then she was to go down and gather all the feathers. She said how can I do this? The priest said thus is the words of your gossip. She was given another penance but learned a great lesson about gossiping. Another word for "brown noser" is being obsequious.

The jury is out for me on Judith, think I lost you along the way Fr Mike, but lets see what she has to say for herself in chapter 8. Can I suggest if we feel the need to gossip, we talk to our plants instead, or fill in the blank dog/cat/wall. They don't answer back, if they do be very afraid!

When it comes to “Nebuchadnezzar, King of the Assyrians,” it seems to me that he could be king of both Assyria and Babylon. Consider that historically Babylon conquered the Assyrian capital of Nineveh in 612 BC with the fall of Assyria itself in 609 BC. This is over two decades before the siege of Jerusalem in 587 BC.
@ACETennisorg Жыл бұрын
You are correct, and I thought the same thing when I first heard this. However, 'Prince' Nebuchadnezzar's father was still alive and was the reigning 'King of Babylon' at this point in time (until 605 BC). After conquering Ninevah in 612 BC, Nebuchadnezzar could claim the title of "King of the Assyrians" because he was sitting on the throne in Ninevah while his father, King Nabopolassar, was in Babylon.

I love Fr Mike and his unpacking of the Bible. That being said, as a teacher it drives me crazy that he mispronounces a LOT of words! The general’s name is pronounced: “Ho lo FUR’ nees” with the accent on the THIRD syllable. It IS NOT pronounced “Ha LA’ fur nees” with the accent on the second syllable. I don’t know where you’re hearing his name pronounced like that, but it’s wrong. And yes, my name is Judith, so I’ve got “street cred” on this.

As there were multiple persons with the names of, John, Mary, Joshua and even Judas. Why would this cause you confusion? This Judith lived about 100 BC.

Nebuchadnezzar, King of Assyria, is why Babylon was called an empire. Commentators may have jumped the gun in suggesting that this is why Judith may not be historically accurate.
