Jimmy and David had a very strained relationship when David was growing up. Jimmy wasn’t around for a lot of his youth, and when he was he was a drugged out rock star. They had to put in a lot of work, both individually and together, to rebuild the relationship. I only mention this to demonstrate why it’s always so emotional for Australians to see them singing together!

David was raised by his grandmother Joan. She told him that his mother Kim was his sister, and that Jimmy was just a close family friend. It's amazing he grew up normal with those lies tbh.

Dear George, Alex, Chris. You have made my day. Seeing the recording of Chisel at the Manly Vale Hotel transported me back. I was 19 when this was recorded. In 1980 there was so much live music in Australia, and in particular my home town Sydney. You could see a great band every weekend. I saw Chisel, the Angels, the Divinyls, INXS (my local band who performed regularly at the Bondi Lifesaver until it closed in Aug 1980), Sky Hooks, Australian Crawl, Midnight Oil, Hunters and Collectors, The Church, The Saints, The Models, Joe Joe Zep and the Falcons, the Scientists, the Go-Betweens, The Birthday Party ( then known as The Boys Next Door), The Ramones, and Split Enz. The list goes on and bands just kept forming and testing their material. It was a sublime time for music audiences. Thoroughly enjoy your work. Cheers and Merry Christmas. Cath

The BEST VERSION of this song by Cold Chisel is actually a tribute concert version to another Aussie Muso called Andy Durant (who unfortunately died young from cancer). The tribute concert involves Cold Chisel members, members of Andy Durants band called Stars, and a couple of other great Aussie singers including the great Renee Geyer. The tribute concert is from 1980 and is available on You-Tube.

A bit of an explanation on Carols by Candlelight. Because it is summer at Christmas time in Australia, almost every town in Australia has an outdoor Carol night. The capital city concerts in huge parks or outdoor music bowls feature celebrity performers and Melbourne and Sydney concerts are televised nationally. A lovely tradition. David Campbell made his name as a cabaret singer in New York when he was young, so he knows his stuff.

Also so sweet that Jimmy hugged and kissed David whilst David was singing. Jimmy may be perceived as a tough guy of rock and roll but he is a softie at heart, especially with his family, and he doesn’t care if everyone knows it!

Wow, this video will now be my family tradition every Xmas, Cold Chisel is one of my fav bands of all time, I could talk lyrical about them, Mossy one of my all time fav guitarists and Barnsey etc, but Walk on and his son Wow, wow, the Og is phenomenal and you guys being English know it’s Liverpools anthem and I am obviously a Liverpool fan, Ian Rush, Kenny D Jan, Grobelarr etc and when ya can’t believe the OG Gerry and the Pacemakers can’t be beaten, I had tears welling up, Jimmy and his Son do this, OMFG. Seriously this video will now be belted out throughout the house come hell or high water, and anyone touching the remote might get crucified since the first time since the Roman’s were in Jerusalem it will be played loud they’re will be lots of beverages and sides and laughter that will also be a rule, and I have the remote end of story. Thank thank thank you guys. Keep bringing back my childhood with these awesome intro and out two themes and doing shit like this. The only thing that could make this better is a Kiwi week and to top it off since you did 3 weeks of Aussie shit banging beautiful second greatest music in the FKN world, you now need to do 4 weeks of OG shit banging Kiwi pub music and also create a magical Xmas special, staring with Neil, ya other only mate from down under other than Jimi freakin Barnes, the one and only a Neil Finn, some name drops, L= Legends or a kiwi Anthems, we have as many if not more than Aussie “Dragon”(L) “Mi Sex” (L) and if that name doesn’t make ya interested then ya one of 2 things a Banker or a Wanker or a Queer or a Steer (ref to Full Metal Jacket there for George since he dropped Platoon on Cold Chisels Khe San) “Hello Salior” “Netherworld Dancing Toys” “The Mutton Birds” “ “Stellar” Sharon O’Neal”(L) “The Datsuns” I think a George knows, “The Swingers” The Dance Exponents (L) Th Dudes (L) legend has it they were so cool they didn’t need the e in The so “Th Dudes” “Shihad” “DD Smash” “OMC” “The Feelers” “Herbs” (L) the Kiwi Elvis, he actually played with Elvis lot’s especially in Hawaii and in his hey day was considered even better looking and a better voice, even by Elvis. I know right. “Citizen Band” yep real name, “Strawpeople” Blam Blam Blam” “ The Mockers” (L) “Chills” (L) “Coconut Rough” (L) and many many more bored you enough my out tro will be even longer than yours, if ya want a list of lists to win the World Cup final between Aussie and NZshred aka New FKN Zealand aka Kiwi home of the long white could and all the Great legends ( eg Sir Ed, he climbed Everest first did ya know, just one of many) of everything sport music and well everything cause we frankly are the smallest greatest nation bigger than everyone else but it’s a secret so don’t tell anyone, then hit me up and I be the Chris of Melbourne but in ChaCha NZ which is Kiwi slang and I’ll let Alex google it and no please don’t come knock on my door, I have a very large dog, he might lick you to death, plus I will then have to provide a beverage and pineapple lumps which are a NZ delicacy and also another LEGEND, no else knows but us Kiwi’s and I don’t like to share them, but it’s Kiwi hospitality etiquette you are required to provide, like some cultures must give you shelter or asylum if you ask for it, anyways out tro is boring me now, got to go, CHUR, thank you in advance and by the way we will win the final. But we still love our Aussie brothers but we love our Aussie sisters just a little bit more❤ Cold Chisel is much loved in NZ btw not just Aussie. PEACE….

Fantastic, you guys nailed the atmosphere in the lounge bars Chisel played but not just Chisel all the bands of that era, there is so much material from Chisel & Jimmy and I'm really happy you played Never Walk Alone, I don't mind admitting it bought a tear to my eye as it reminded me of people long since past, I urge you to do another Chisel anthem at some stage, "Goodbye" there are many versions on the net but please do one that is live and you will see Jimmy at his absolute craziest, it was their ending number on most occasions and drove the crowd in to a wild frenzy. Cheers for the pleasure of watching your channel through out the year & both have a fantastic Christmas & all the best for the new year.

There's another version of this song, also featuring Chisel members alongside a bunch of brilliant Aussie rock acts, dating from 1979 - from the Ivan Durant Memorial Concert. It introduced me to this song. Everyone in it was great, especially Broderick Smith, who did restrained intensity like a pro. Ever since, when I've heard the Bon Jovi cover, which is played in rotation on the FM station at my work, I've wanted to throw a brick at the radio. Here was this brilliant song with sensitive and intelligent lyrics, and bloody Bon Jovi doing the full, lycra-wearing (with a sock down the jocks), "woh, woh, woh" version.

Merry Christmas Len! It's always a pleasure reading your comments mate, and having the odd discussion! I shall be in touch just after the New Year about your curated week. Looking forward to it, hope you have a wonderful break!

@@christhecurator Hi Chris, thanks for your good wishes. No stress about the curated week. I always suspected it wouldn't fly, even before I submitted it, just by some prior comments in the videos. Secretly, (just between you and I) those comments may have even been the spur to submit the week in the first place. May I just say that my support for this channel has not been, is not and will never be contingent on any curated week getting a run. Always completely separate. My recent comments were not meant with any negativity, but sometimes I bristle at the inuendo that indirectly lands on people who appreciate the band when they are labeled as fetishist, or worse. Particularly when they are baseless, throwaway lines rooted in superficial and incorrect assumptions. Anyway Chris, I hope you have a fantastic Christmas, a prosperous New Year and just an all-round good time. I will be in and out of the country for the next weeks or so, starting tomorrow (if I can get my bags on a plane), so I will have to check the last two Days of Christmas on my laptop on the run. Thankyou to you, Alex and George for a fantastic body of work this year. I am really looking forward to seeing the gold produced next year. Merry Christmas.

Yep, Len.... we babble on. We thought about pulling it back in, but we'd rather be us, have a community and try and create and inviting space. So we are just us. Thanks for all your support over the year Len. You've helped build this community and are an important part of the channel. Take care, and I'm sending you peace an vibes for Xmas. Take care - Alex

@@christhecurator Hi Chris, completely different topic, but related to The Lovebites reaction from Day 4. Lovebites ended their hiatus on December 22 by announcing a new bassist in the band and dropping a new single. It is a shredfest and the vocals are amazing too. It's called Judgement Day, even for your own enjoyment, it is worth a look. have a great christmas.

Alex, did you get your glasses from Brains of Thunderbirds fame. Merry Christmas to both of you and everyone on this great channel. Dad and the lad also teamed up on a duet of Witchita Linesman.Diagonally opposed to their usual.

In Australia, they have numberplate censors who weed out the inappropriate choices.
