The humidity in the Appalachian mountains is probably the hardest thing for a hiker. The cold is colder and likewise the heat. Totally different from the west. And it doesn’t get any better up the trail.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Great content editing and that map graphic is awesome. You're making way better videos than many people posting their hikes. Besides the normal, water borne culprits (Giardia, Cryptosporidium), stomach viruses frequently affect backpackers. The crowded AT shelters during thru-hiker season are the biggest source of these illnesses. Food and water handling, person to person, and surface to hand are the most common ways to get sick. It is pretty hard to get a virus from a flowing, mountain stream or spring, but your better safe than sorry approach doesn't hurt. Good luck! Have fun!

We might have to rename your neroes (nearly zeroes) to something else, because 14 miles is impressive for day 3! Maybe we just call them pit stops? Like everyone else, I love the map graphic at the end. I’m already getting goosebumps thinking about how you will connect them all when you finish. In the past I’ve seen some hikers forward their resupply boxes further up the trail. Keep that in mind as an option. MFHM! ❤️

Wow what a wonderful sunries. The what virus??? I haven't herd anything about this ?? The fact that you made it to neels gap in less than 3 days with a 30lbs pack is crazy impressive!!! I have watched a lot of thru hikers on youtube every year. But you are geting it done i dont think i have seen anyone that i have followed get there as fast as you did. Keep up the good work. But i also know your in peak conditioning to. I know your and hike plus i know the west coast mountain are way higher than the appalachian mountains. So the elevation change here isnt as hard as the rocky mountains. So that probably has a lot to do with it

Noro virus is a stomach bug (worse than the flu) that tends to spread on the AT every year early on when the trails are more crowded. It can spread in different temperatures and and sanitizer doesn't kill it. Most modern water filters don't filter it out. That's why she was using an aqua tab which does kill Noro.
@kmichaelp45089 ай бұрын
@@somerandomguy4149 , yep it is. But pretty much less strenuous with the ups and downs. Pretty straight.
@watersmithkayking89939 ай бұрын
Ask a Triple Crown hiker what was the hardest. While the PCT and CDT are at a higher average elevation, the daily CHANGE in elevation is far more extreme on the AT. Especially in GA and NC! Many of the trails in the Sierras and Rockies are on old cattle trails, while the AT was built as a scenic trail that went to the top of every hill for the view.
