For many many years....these men interrogated many abused women and children in their "so called" judicial committees. Lording over their subjects... requesting very personal details from the victims in order to determine if the charges had truth. I always thought it was to just get their jollies off. A woman or child all alone in front of 3 men in suits....how can this "procedure" be allowed to continue. A written apoligy along with financial reimbursement should be mandated due to their part in further victimization of the survivors. This "so called" procedure has caused trauma and suicide not only in these cases but many other types of cases as well. NICE TO SEE THEM ON A HOT SEAT & BEING QUESTIONED. Their validity being questioned....finally to see what it feels like first hand.

When I was a JW child, my parents kept me out of school (and supposedly "homeschooled" me), in order to keep me out of the world. I only went to half of the first grade, and my younger siblings never went to school at all. The only adults we knew were JWs. There are many JW kids that don't go to school. Now if they want to tell someone their parents are abusing them, they have no choice but to tell a JW. Logically, they would tell a JW elder, because they have been taught it is the elders' responsibility to protect them. Homeschooled JW children will be afraid to go to a worldly person for help, because all they know about worldly people is what JWs have told them, and they are told the worldly people are even worse than JWs. So, these children only have the elders to help them. If the elders refuse to call the police, the children are in worse of a spot than if they had not told, because now their parents will find out they told and their will be repercussions for telling the secret.

It should be quite obvious now that the JWS have been keeping these situations held internally and not reporting these Crimes (Not Sins) from proper legal authorities. JWs are strongly influenced by the leaders of this organization to uphold the image of the organization from the publics view. ( Mustn't bring reproach upon Jehovah's organization ) Many children or parents of these children have been intimidated not to bring the matter to outside authorities. The wrong of this is firstly the perpetrators aren't punished by the law or psychologically analyzed and many times these people flee undetected to the public. It should be realized that acts of pedophilia happen repeatedly by these perpetrators, even after been found and supposedly voiced repentance toward church clergy. Pedophilia is more than just sexual misconduct or pornia, such as fornication or adultery, its a serious egregious crime in most countries for a practical reason.

Adrian, these people are tightly controlled by deep fear. They’ve been convinced that on the probable chance that the offender will deny the charge, there will be no consequences by the congregation. If the victim then goes to the police the victim & her family will eventually be shunned for bringing shame on the congregation. Their social support system, their congregation and extended family members do not have details. All they know is that the offender was accused of something but has not been found guilty. They will completely exclude the victim as if they are dead. The victim will become a non-person. Imagine if your loved ones would not even accept a phone call from you. There have been suicides because of this type of betrayal.

De Rooy says he believed the survivor(s), but did absolutely nothing about the man he believed/knew to be a pedophile at home with unprotected children. What child molester is going to say he is unrepentant in the face of disfellowshipping? None. I was a JW for 22 years (raised as a JW from age 6) Nobody needs perfection from the JWs or any other group - but the problem in their handling of sex abuse was their rule of two witnesses being required. When I was in they told families not to report it to police because it would bring shame on the organization. They cared more about their reputation more so than the victim. There was a family in the US that reported the rape to the police and were disfellowshipped for it. I think ARC just wants to change the laws so that there isn't a separate set of rules being used by religious organizations that allows sexual abusers to go unpunished by the state.

@Michael Rivers, Her abuse started at age 3. She was unable to go to the police. When she was older & told the elders, they had her leave her home, but kept her sisters at home with the father to be abused. When BCG & her mom asked BCG's younger sisters, they were around 4 and 6 or 7 when they were sexually abused. It is so pathetic that most people here had became so judgmental and bias and pretend to be knowing stuff but in fact so ignorant. Put your self in this guy's shoes. More than 25 years ago and as an elder, he has many responsibilities to attend to especially dealing with all sort of people. The only issue on their part is that they did not initiate the reporting of the matter to the authorities given that he said they left it on the family's call. The mother, the victim and her fiance has all the rights to report it but they chose not to and that is what the elders respected but they made the right action by deleting the suspect within the congregation.

JWs told families that reporting sex abuse to the police would bring shame or reproach on god's organization. Families were told not to report it to police. There was a family in the US the child was abused and of course no two witnesses were there so nothing was done. The family reported it to police and they got disfellowshipped for reporting the crime.

So Cem Akar are you saying that the details of a guy molesting not 1 but 4 of his daughters. Details that made a guy sick to his stomach. Details that he openly admits made him believe that it was true. That those details wouldn't be burned into his memory for the rest of his life? Do you really believe that they were not morally bound to report that to the cops? Even if they were not legally bound to? Absolutly great summation and how many people know this even if the elders dont specifically say not to report to police and getting therapy wpuld mean associating with a worldy person on a deep level over a possibly long time. So they are all lying when they say it is fi e to do either. And i am sure they left the parents to decide what to do with their ow children even if the parent was the abuser. I know that they got my mom and sister to call my daughter a liar when she disclosed my sis husband had molested her. They belived her until the elders spent an hour with them and then whike i was at the police making a report that same night my mom took my sis and her two girl home to him. My mom is a weak, self involved, coward and my daughter and i cannot stand her. She is a perfect follower of anyone who has sone snake oil for sale. She has never researched anything in her life. She is not even a "witness" irregular at best butbshe willndo what they say over commmon sense when it will do such damage to her grandaughters.

Nobody ever said that have the authority of the law. They are being expected to actually refer to the law that which is far over their heads. They don't do that. That's the entire point!
