Sardines are great! I never was a big sardine eater until I had an acute inflammation issue a few years ago, and needed a food source for Omega 3. I read about the anti inflammatory properties and general nutritional goodness of sardines, so I ate them every day for a week. Wow! My pain went from 7/10 (high) to 3/10 in just 5 days. And it kept getting better. I've heard of people eating nothing but sardines and have had amazing results. I follow 'Ketogenic Woman' for the most part. Also, try to eat them packed in either water or olive oil only. The other oils are not a healthy choice. Rick, I think perhaps the high protein from the beef in your diet may be your kidneys and/or liver is unable to handle clearing. I think you should consider having your kidney and liver function tested again. That may be the cause of the itching...

rick, when i first got histamine intolerance, the doctors gave me antihistamines. they are generally for allergies. had no effect whatsoever on my histamine reaction. if you really want to know if it's histamine that's bothering you, do a blood test and for dao too. it's the enzyme that breaks down histamine. you can also test for zonulin while you're at it. it's a sign of bowel inflammation and leaky gut. you can also buy dao supplements. some are made from some kind of bean so be careful in case you care. i also have a stack of them on hand in case something unsuspected doesn't agree with me.

regarding weighing every day, i'd say that it's rather about how you feel about it. if you get on the scales and expect to see miraculous weight loss and feel terribly disappointed that it's not happening, then don't weigh yourself every day. i do check my weight every day. i feel it's important for me to understand how different food choices and behaviors affect me. and also if i need to take measures not to regain the weight. if i don't pay attention, i might put on 10 pounds before noticing. it's much easier to correct if you catch it at the start.

This is very similar to my thinking also 😊👍

Feeling snacky...perhaps your body was craving cheese? In my experience, the casein in cheese is at least as addictive as sugar. I grew up on chocolate and cheese (in Switzerland) and when I decided to go completely plant based, it was actually more difficult to let go of cheese than sugar and caffeine.

Forgot to mention it last video. If you have a digital scale, it's probably just lying to you, it's physically impossible to be the same weight seven hours apart if you don't eat or drink anything. All the water and carbon you breathe out would measure in the 100s of grams in that timeframe. I've had it both ways, either the scale didn't move during the night or I somehow lost 2.5 pounds in 6 hours, both are obviously not true. I've found most digital scales I've had over the years very unreliable for precision, mechanical ones are still superior IMO.

Just food for thought but maybe it might be worth changing your laundry tablets/liquid. I have sensitive skin and can only use the same type or I will get itching. Sometimes these brands change or add things too without advertising. Might be worth looking in to. Keep up the good work.

Good point! I did notice that products I've used for years have suddenly changed their ingredients. I immediately realize this when I start itching all over, anywhere clothing sits. But I do believe, as I've said, that perhaps kidney and liver function tests may be in order now, just to rule things out....

Day 16 for me, i weigh daily. My choice, balls to the naysayers!

Still pretty sure your itching is sweating related. Check out the link between high protein consumption and increased sweating. The lower back is exactly where this sweating would occur - there is also a medical condition. Combined with increase in fats and water consumption, sitting down after eating and sleeping what you are experiencing would make perfect sense rather than having an adverse affect to a specific kind of food - especially if there was no such reaction to the food prior to starting the Carnivore diet. It will be interesting to know the results after your antihistamine tablet experiment though. Can't beat good old process of elimination

regarding hunger, i read a while ago that it's not the healthy state digestive affairs. rather we need to feel appetite for food. i now notice that before i get terribly hungry, i feel drawn to eating food, i might get the juices flowing in my mouth and if i eat, i consume a normal amount of food for a proper meal. i hope that makes sense.

Doing daily weigh-ins is OK though it is best to plot a rolling average of 7-10 days and use THAT as your real weight progress, because daily and even hourly weight changes quite a bit 😄 You can keep your metabolism and muscle-mass up by cardio and resistance training, even when in a deficit... so long as you are getting adequate protein - and you should be on your diet 😀 Those body fat/muscle/water measuring scales are great though only take note of the trends of them not the precise numbers because they can be out by a fair bit. The tech is Bioimpedance... basically a small (non-dangerous-at-all electric current is passed through your body and it measures the amount of resistance. It knows your weight and after you've put in other details like height, age, fitness, etc. it can GUESS the other stuff. So long as your numbers are trending in the right direction it is all good! Sardines are nice, though yeah... 3 days of only sardines! Do-able for sure, and also a quick meal if you didn't fancy steak or whatever one day in the future too! I read when I go to bed all the time. There is a slight risk of losing sleep if the book is really good though 🤣

Is it possible that continually jumping on the scales is a form of self sabotage? If you don't meet your goals in X amount of days you can get frustrated, create bad connections to the diet and eventually have the excuse jumping on the scales gives you...and that is to give up, and then blame it all on that 'stupid carnivore diet'. Put them in the attic, make them difficult to get to, and look at them once a month. Or chuck them in the bin. The mind is a tricky bugger.

Just weigh yourself once per week. I've got the Renpho scales. They work well but don't take the biometric readings too seriously.

I was wondering about the cheese and histamine connection... Aged cheeses, such as parmesan, asiago, cheddar, Swiss cheese, and gouda, are very high in histamine.

Hi Rick, is it possible you have dry skin and that's causing the itching? Have you tried a moisturizer? Thank you for the daily videos!

A thought. Because you are eating so little by "American/European" standards is the itching still just flushing of extras that only move with food. May want to look at a eat a little all day and see if it shows a pattern.

You maybe creating a bit of anxiety and causing itching by over thinking what food is causing it, you may find it's the mind and not any of the food at all

What about the butter? That seems to appear in many of your meals, from steak toppings, to mashed eggs, to now sardines? Who knows. I do feel a proper walk outside may cure some of the lack of appetite. A good, vigorous jaunt about in the cold always stimulates my appetite, for sure! (Especially when die-hard winter grillers are cooking a steak or chicken on the bbq...the aroma makes me so hungry!)

I think there is something to your intuitive eating. Your body may just be happy burning your fat supplies and so isn't putting in the request for outside energy. I don't subscribe to the "starvation mode" way of thinking... your body can't defy physics. Check out a Video called "The smartest way to lose fat" by James Smith. He's a fitness youtuber but says it how it is. He's very funny and dry but he explains things very well.

Thanks for the tip - I'll check him out 👍 Yep I'm starting to think I might be on to something regarding the intuitive eating :)

About the itchy I would go to a doctor or a nutritionist to see what's up.
@Snowsea-gs4wu9 ай бұрын
Yeah sure, let me preview what will happen: Nutritionist: drop that terrible diet! Eat 7 thousands times a day and use the food pyramid in all its glory since that is what was mandated. Dermatologist: buy this (very) expensive 5 creams, put this one every hour with round clockwise movements (and an angel overseeing it), this other one every 37.5 minutes same thing but do it counterclockwise, and on and on with the others LOL! If you fail to do this EXACTLY as explained then it is not my fault. After that both will collect their “bonuses” from the system, either from the food system or the labs that sell the expensive creams. The medical system is deeply rotten and our only solution is to DIY with a naturopath, integrative or similar provider avoiding the above scams like a plague!
@rickvanman9 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly this 👆 This is how I've come to look upon the entire medical system now, it is broken beyond repair

Ok. First, new sub here. Next, I have not followed your entire journey, so I might be way off base in my thinking, but the one thing I see that you have been eating consistently are those crisps. Did the itching start before or after you started eating them?

From Google: Why is my back and side itchy without a rash? "Dry skin is a common cause of itchy skin without a rash. In most cases, dry skin is mild. It can result from environmental conditions, such as low humidity and hot or cold weather. It's also sometimes caused by activities that can decrease moisture in the skin, such as bathing in hot water." I'm wondering if it's a winter thing? Windows closed, humidity? Lay on back in evening, maybe sweating in bed? Back in contact with furniture when relaxed? Whilst you're up and about moving, you're okay? Further research? Not related in any way to food?

Thanks for the suggestion, there are so many possibilities at the moment, I guess it’s just a case of working with anything that suggests a correlation. All I know is at the moment, it increases after I’ve eaten food. But again, so many variables, it could be anything at this stage. 😊👍
