I have a family divided as well . Adult children that need to have a relationship with Jesus, who have left the church. It is so painful. I come from a large family and of my 9 siblings 4 have abandoned the church. Of those, they have varying degrees of bitterness. I really understand the gospel where there is so much rejoicing when a lost sheep is found. Although I appreciate and am joyful of the other siblings who are very active in their parishes there is still sorrow over those that have left the church. I need to pray the rosary for all of those to return.

Why doesn't Jesus die from Herod or being pushed off of the cliff? Great question! Jesus had to establish the Kingdom through Holy Mother Church and Jesus' obedience of choosing to accept to suffer willingly the crucifixion. Well said, dear Father Mike! What a blessing!

The Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Heaven, is here in time, now. During the Paschal Mystery when Christ gave up His Spirit, the veil was torn and the bridge between this world and heaven was opened -- as He rose from the dead. By knowing the Lord we enter that Kingdom now, and eternal life begins. John 17:3. We experience that mystically at Mass, at adoration and in quiet moments of prayer. We experience it when we serve the poor and lonely. At our death this taste of eternal joy opens wide when we come face to face with Christ. Let me choose Christ and His kingdom now. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. Eternal life can begin now! Amen? Amen!

in paragraph 547 it says Everyone is called to enter the kingdom of God. the word " Everyone" is italisized. but to me I think the word "called" should also be italisized. Everyone is going to enter the kingdom of God. Everyone is guaranteed to enter the kingdom of God. Everyone is CALLED to enter the kingdom of God. there is a difference. I'm doing the BIY and CIY together and it's very wonderful because there's so much more meaning of what Jesus has brought us gentile's to that we would not have had the blessing of understanding. Just the difference of bread for mere food compared to The Bread of Life that's clearly distinguished by Jesus in His fasting in the desert before His public ministry.

Another take on the horrendous death of Christ, Father, is that Man is so arrogant that an infant murder ( it happens every day now) or being pushed over a cliff would have made no impression on us. our hardened hearts would not have blinked! But who can gloss over His crucifixion and suffering? Even our hearts must quake at that when in the fullness of time he had shown us the importance of His mission, and which the evangelists described so well for our instruction.
