This guest was very entertaining. Great episode! But I do wonder what's the logic behind having almost exclusively new and inexperienced players? Seems like there should be a balance. Many of the guests appear to have learned Magic just for the sake of appearing on the show; shouldn't the focus be on the game first and guest second? I'd love to see someone like Kyle Hill from Nerdist in an episode. He was great on the MtG show on G&S's twitch, super entertaining and encyclopedic knowledge of the game and cards.

I started playing Magic because of this show and honestly I have had very few complaints. I really do like this show, however this one was rough. When it takes literally four minutes for the hands to be revealed (4:01 to be exact), and over four and a half minutes for the first card to be played (4:43), I knew it was going to be a rough episode. When the episode is less than twenty minutes and nearly a quarter of that is doing introductions and deck reveals, it gets rather annoying. You can tell that it was a fast game in real time because nearly every move is then scrutinized and rebutdtaled with commentary. I kinda wish that this game was scrapped and another played (though I have no idea about time constraints and budgets, so for all I know it was rushed.) Regardless, keep up the great work! I loved the Chris Kluwe episode!

I am, of course, aware that mana colors have no inherent alignment, and it all depends on the individual planeswalkers that use them, but in an archetypal way you can't get any closer to LG vs. CE in MTG than with White/Blue vs. Red/Black, which I do enjoy thematically once in a while... Sadly, though, Haven (to mix yet another franchise into my analogy ;P) apparently sent out the third-born son of their third-born son, fresh out of paladin school, to lead an army in disarray...

No offense, but to me that rather sounds like negative nancy-ing. The episode was decent and ofc not every game of Magic ends up in a strategic spectactle, especially when introducing newcomers to the game. The edits, chemistry between guest and host and the funny moments are just some examples for positive things to point out.

I know it's probably too much of a hassle to be workable on the show's budget but it would be nice if they'd record the intro, play out 2-3 games and then just pick the one with the most back and forth to showcase. These blowout games aren't quite as fun to watch (although the banter is the real reason to watch anyway, to be fair) but it's just part Magic that they will happen from time to time so it makes sense to plan the recording sessions in such a way as to account for potentially weak games.

In regards to turn 2:Wouldn't Gavin's Fairy Miscreant have to resolve and become a creature (and allow him to draw) BEFORE Sean could target it with fiery impulse? Otherwise its just a spell and would have to be targeted or negated as such, right?I'm a relatively new player but I am just curious.

also it's not per upkeep. it's per draw step, you untap all tapped permanents unless some effect says they don't untap (untap step) then you upkeep, pay any upkeep costs and effects that trigger during upkeeps trigger, unless an effect says it doesn't (this is the upkeep step) then you draw one card, unless an effect says you draw more or less. (this is the draw step) there are cards that have players skip upkeeps or draw steps so it's important to know those are different things.
