Most of this plastic is washed in from other countries but there's no point in playing the blame game... once it arrives on the beaches here it's now our problem as Australians. As custodians of The Great Barrier Reef, one of the natural wonders of the world we need to take better care of it. Having Turtles laying their eggs in piles of plastic is disgusting and hopefully some of this footage can show you guys how polluted with plastic the beaches are in remote North east Australia. The world needs a very inexpensive viable plastic alternative that biodegrades for most of the disposables. 3rd world countries can't afford alternatives and don't have good trash collection practices or facilities. No knowing how true it is, but I heard a stat that 90% of the ocean's plastic comes from Asia and Africa. Having lived in the Philippines for 2 years, I can sadly say that is probably close to the truth. Clean up what you can, but we really need to solve the root problem.

I've found heaps of Indonesian drink bottles washed up on the west coast of Flinders Island in Bass Straight. Also found a thong hanging tree on Chilli Beach on Cape York. All odd thongs, not a single matched pair. I have no idea what crimes they committed!!! Australia's northern shoreline is littered with thousands of tonnes of plastic litter. You'd need a small bulldozer to dig and pull out the "ghost" nets washed in and covered up with sand. Plastic is killing our fish and bird life. Pity is I can't see it stopping any time soon.
@fuzzyboomboom9742
@fuzzyboomboom9742 3 жыл бұрын
If you buy anything made of or packaged in plastic, that's your waste in the Ocean. Lots of plastic in the Oceans is too small to see easily, and it gets there from container loads of plastic pellets that fall in and spill - the pellets are the feed stock used for making all manner of plastic containers and parts. The rubbish on the beaches is just the tip of the iceberg. There are huge areas of plastic rubbish floating in the open ocean. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch covers >1.5 million square kilometers.
@chaparralproductions7056
@chaparralproductions7056 3 жыл бұрын
@@fuzzyboomboom9742 not true. There are counties that attempt to recycle and responsibly depose of plastics. Being south of Southeast Asia puts Australia in the path of many countries that simply dump trash in the rivers and streams. Tragic!
@fuzzyboomboom9742
@fuzzyboomboom9742 3 жыл бұрын
@@chaparralproductions7056 It's not a "game" but yes the blame is real. I am as guilty as anyone, but if you are in denial that you are, too, then you're part of the problem. No country is recycling 100% of its plastic waste. Even if you think you are recycling all of yours, some of it will fly off the truck on the way to the recycling center and into a river. And if you're buying anything made of plastic, that is just a perpetuation of the problem. Just stop using plastic packaging, for a start.

Good vids keep going, you’re lucky bastard. I’d love to be the one to start a company simply for plastic cleanup. I’m a little ocd about cleanliness so that would probably be a great gig for me but when you’re a poor boy, business ideas are just figments off your imagination

June 2021 We saw a beach clean up crew of about 15-20 people based at Knob Head Hope Vale north of Cooktown, they drove a removalist truck in and started at Knob Head working their way north to Elim Beach way, we went for a walk where they had picked up the rebris and every little micro plastic was removed as well as the larger items. They had tents in the bush so looked like they were there a while. Clean ups happen but just not nearly as much as what is washed up from our neighboring countries. We always take as much as we can back to a rubbish tip but it feels like a speck of sand in the whole ocean. Well done to make others more aware of the ongoing issues.

I think the fruit is called syzygium malaccense (Malay apple / macopa) it is a species of flowering tree native to Malesia and Australia. Its supposed to be nice as a jam ( also preserving the fruit) stewing the fruity flesh with sugar and ginger. There are many benefits of the fruit (Treat Eyes Health, Relieves fever, Nourish the skin, Prevents diabetes, Increase Endurance, Treat Sprue, Overcome dysentery, Strengthens bones, Skin Health, Prevent Acne, Cure Liver Damage, Prevent Constipation) you can also use the fruit, leaves and seeds (boiled in water) to treat fevers, headaches, cough, blood pressure. Dried leaves for treating tongue wound. Roots of plant to treat itches, swelling, relieving dysentery. Boiling the stems and drinking the water can be used as a sprue medicine.
