I am currently training to be a marine engineer with a level 3 apprenticeship. For progression through your higher national certificate (HNC), higher national diploma (HND) and other relevant marine engineer qualifications, you will need to be sponsored/ hired as a marine apprentice from a shipping company. They will then most likely send you to a nautical training facility such as Blackpool, the Humber, tyneside, portsmouth, the clyde (Glasgow), for a period to get your fundamental seafarers knowledge, sea survival tickets and to develop your academic and practical skills. Your company will pay for this training as an investment in you and you should be payed an apprentices salary too. I would definitely recommend this path because you will train into a complex profession with no debts, you will transform into a skilled professional in just 3/4 years, and then you will be in a great position (as 4th engineer probably) to pursue a prosperous career. I would recommend creating a draft email of interest that lists your skills, experience, goals and interests, and contact as many shipping companies as you can with it. If you persevere with this first step then you will get an oppertunity for sure as there are lots of companies looking for dedicated, reliable marine engineers to join their company. Once you have been taken on and have built up your qualifications and some experience you will be in an extremely good position to find work anywhere around the world and negotiate for higher rates of salary. Good luck!

Hey can you tell me whether this marine engineering field is affected by the pandemic and tell me how do you spend your time when you reach back to your home for vacation. Do you fell being introvert.
@SLnMariner3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is affected , regarding Vacation I am doing soo many things, onboard there are so many social activities , I have never seen an introverter during my carrier.
