I always love it when you upload... You're one of my comfort KZbinrs, been watching you for years now Also I love Daniel Scott, I've taken a couple of his courses in the past On the ghosting issue, I'm a freelance web developer and designer and I had a client who ghosted me and reached out to me again then ended up blocking me because I asked him to sign a contract before I do any work. It reflects badly on them and not on you if you've done things right

Aw thank you for your sweet words!! Nice, what are some other courses you can recommend by him? I see he has a ton. Dang can you believe that client?! I am sorry you had to experience that.

@@LindieBotes I took his Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator courses, pretty sure all his courses are solid, might even take the webflow course you're taking because I want to improve my webflow skills too I've learned to not take rejections as a freelancer personal, but it took a lot of hurt to get to the point where I'm unbothered 😅

About the topic at 5:44: My general rule of thumb is that as a beginner you want to get a non-native, fluent speaker as your teacher but once you become advanced, a native speaker is the better choice.

Hi Lindie, I’ve been watching your videos for a long time. At first I was just amazed that you’re South African (I am too, but living in the US)! I’m so happy to see that you are nearing the end of the tunnel after a tough three years. I’ve challenges myself and totally agree with your comments about positive thoughts and a positive environment. I’m so glad you have friends who are there for you. We really cannot deal with these things by ourselves! Best wishes to you and I’ll keep watching whatever you show us! Mooi bly!

I've been job hunting too and gosh it gets so exhausting. I feel like it should be a requirement to send out rejection letters. Even if it's automated, I'd prefer to know. @_@ I'm sorry you're struggling with it too. I hope we can both find something soon! And thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your journey with grief. It's such a difficult thing to manage and overcome, and even then things stick with you. But you've made such amazing progress, you are so strong and so inspiring! Keep being awesome, wishing you the best

Ok wait..the entire part of the video where you were teaching English is SO RELATABLE!! 😂😂😂 I'm an English tutor too (from the US) and even after teaching online for over a year I STILL have students ask "why things are like that" in English and I'm always like "hmm 🤔 another good question that I don't have the answer to. I'll have to research it and get back to you". But I like to be transparent with them, and I tell them that when you grow up speaking a language, you typically don't think about most of these things, you just learn them by heart, so I might not have the answer right away. And then they tell me that they couldn't imagine teaching their native languages to people, haha. And explaining English spelling vs. pronunciation?? 🫠🤡
@LindieBotes3 ай бұрын
Ahahah I am glad its relatable! Gosh yes explaining pronunciation is wack. It is what it is 😭 I respect teachers so much.

I feel that too. I teach portuguese, which is my native language, and my students ask questions that I don't have an answer to, because there are things in the language that just are the way they are. For example, you can't translate idioms and expressions literally, but my students sometimes ask "what does this literally mean" or "that literally doesn't make sense, why would you say it like that". It happens a lot especially with colloquial expressions. And I have to say "it is the way it is", this is how the language works and you don't have to understand everything about it. You have to be able to communicate and express thoughts in it. I don't teach English, but I have learnt it as a second language and I totally understand where people are coming from. There are things in English that make literally no sense, especially when it comes to pronunciation (there are ridiculous amounts of exceptions), so I always give that example to counterbalance haha
@LuggageLife3 ай бұрын
@OliviaSilvaCompositora it's so true hahaha, I have some great short videos explaining why English words are not very phonetic most of the time. And I agree, there are just some things about languages that don't necessarily have explanations. They just are the way they are because they were created that way.

こんにちは, Lindie. I relate so much to you in the grief department; you're definitely not alone. I lost my dad several years ago now, and it took at least a good 2 years for me to finally have some relief from depression. It's a very difficult thing. A book that really helped my mindset shift regarding this topic was "A Grief Observed" by C S Lewis. It's not a book I would read around others as it is an intimate look into his heart as he grieves his wife, so it is heart-wrenching. Even so, seeing that even such a staunch believer like Lewis could have the same feelings I did, really made me think. I dont even know if you'll see this comment, but I'll keep praying for you. 💜

Do you also teach other languages? 👀 Man that's frustrating when you keep hearing no. And even more irritating when you don't hear anything at all... But I remember the Lord told me, "No man can close a door I shut, and no man can open a door I've closed." He opened the door to my current job... But when I tell you the environment is TOXIC... I now wish I hadn't prayed for this one and that He kept that door shut super tight! 😭 Wherever He leads you, trust His timing and know that Jesus will open that door when it's time. 🙏🏽❤️ Praying something comes soon!

Employers do that "ghosting" thing in the United States too. I think it's part of the world not following Jesus these days. Our culture in the states, and I understand in several other countries, encourages us to put ourselves first, only do what's best for us at the time. It's easiest for them to just ignore people. It saves them time, and they don't have to deal with anyone who might respond in an unpleasant way, so that's what they do. There's no thought of "This person is waiting to hear from me. This person needs to know they didn't get this job so they can move on in their search."
