Having been estimating for the last 8 plus years, i find the culture varies so much company to company. The smaller companies want each estimator to do everything. But the larger companies always work in teams of 2 or more. The added help of additional team members helps a lot with the stress. Plus with bigger companies you aren't being evaluated on your results.

So which environment is better, small or big company
@asadb19909 ай бұрын
@nicknico4121 small company to learn but only if you are in start of your career. But big company if you want stability and want to have lower workload as the work is often done in teams.

Can you make a video going in depth into the spreadsheets you use and how you set them up?
@CodyCockroft Жыл бұрын
I cant unfortunately because I did not make them and my company owns them, not me. Sorry.

Going to lunch on bid day? Good job counting toilet accessories and calling it a hard day LOL

when it's only the survey and calculations time, can you do that at home? Do companies allow you to work from home once in a while?
@CodyCockroft8 ай бұрын
Yes, if I ask too. However, I like coming in to the office everyday if I can because I think it shows I am putting in a lot of effort.

Thanks for sharing yr work. I used to be a QS manager as a developer company in my home country. I need to transfer my career to Canada. Can you give me some guidance to do ? Like, regulations, cost calculation, price depends, risks control.

Next time get it with extra grilled onions. 10/10. Is this job stressful and if so does the stress ever go away?

Good tip... Yes bid days are hectic, even more than what I could show in this video. But most days are not like this so its not bad. I enjoy it.

We wont find out for awhile, because this job wasn't competing against other GC's. However, we still had to get our final number that day so the project executives could give it to the owner. (which they have a relationship with somehow) And maybe he will award us the job if he can pay for it.

Your only 22 with absolutely no experience but you have a degree. That business is not going to last. About 10yrs ago we had a guy work with us who never did any type of Tree removal and he was the same age as you 22 with all these fancy Certifications in Tree Care/Removal and Climbing. Well we had him do a few removals for us well he cut his climbing line 2x, he Took out a Fence, Got his saw pinched several times. Long story short we Paid him for that day and Terminated him that day. A few weeks go by and we found out he Killed himself doing a Removal, he opened his own company. The part of the Tree he was Tied into was the same section he was going to cut and did cut. He cut his rope and grabbed that same block of wood which weighed around 400lbs he fell 21ft and the block of wood fell on top of him Crushing and killing him.

Did you just compare cutting down trees to estimating large scale construction projects😂 your point goes out the window. There is other estimators with degrees as well that started off just like him.
