I’ve been surprised how many livestock guardian dogs there actually are. I live in rural Northeast Ohio, and I’ve noticed several big fluffy white farm dogs watching over their herd, typically goats and sheep. My grandparents also used to have a Great Pyrenees guarding their alpacas. Your videos have made me much more aware of their presence and value in farming communities.

Also watching from NE Ohio!!! Hello neighbor! Love more of us are gold Shaw fans (: I plan to open a permaculture farm somewhere in Massillon, south of Green and Akron in the next 10 years (finishing grad school now 😂) and I love our area for its mix of farm/suburbia/city. We can really make such a difference here! Morgan has inspired me to add animals into the mix. The plan is to have ponds, forest, a nut and fruit orchard, and a garden that provides roughly half of our food. But watching Morgan has inspired us to maybe add some cows and chickens (: We also see lots of farm dogs down this way (:

Almost all farms have a dog or two on them. They may not necessarily be called livestock guardian dogs, but the do have several roles to fill on a farm with livestock on it.

One thing I would recommend is that you put a gate into the birds outside area to leave open at night for the dogs. If something comes in through or over or under the fence there, the dogs will tear the world down to protect their birds. As it is now, the dogs can’t easily get there, so it is a place that is unprotected by them, but it is the very attractive place to predators who can smell the birds.
@Atyoung19752 жыл бұрын
I was thinking Abby needed a good chew like a bully stick, but then you pulled out those knuckles and I thought, perfect! She won't chew those bowls if there's something better. Our dog has to have something to chew on to relieve anxiety. Love this video!

I think Abby needs some chew toys, she tends to get board and then you have chewed bowls. lol She also needs to know that there are acceptable things to chew and things that she shouldn’t chew. Nylabone makes some great options, she won’t be able to destroy them right away she’ll really have to work at it, plus Kongs are good because even though it might freeze, it’ll still work! Anything she can throw around and make a game of it is also a good idea, because she’s still a puppy after all! I’m sure others will have suggestions that will fit into her guardian dog life, and don’t forget to get Toby his own toy too! We still love her despite her penchant for plastic, and she will only continue to get better as she ages. Toby is a given a far as having the hearts of the masses, so he needn’t worry! ♥️

Keep the bones from the cattle for your dog's. They are the absolute best for keeping oral health. My 12.5 yr standard poodle has never needed her teeth cleaned as she gets raw bones every week or so. Her vet totally agrees with me to give them. What she.eats of the bones boosts her calcium and other mineral level.

Your neighbors with horses, ask them for the hoof trimmings from their horses. They make great "recycled" and free dog chews. They are quite elastic and take them a while for them to chew and dogs love the taste.

Please be careful with letting your dogs chew on the Christmas tree branches; the issue with Christmas trees tends to be the needles, which can irritate your pet's mouth, get stuck in their paws, and can cause an upset tummy if too many are eaten. It can cause a puncture in the intestinal lining, upset the stomach and irritate the mucus membrane in your dog. Again it can't kill your dog but it does cause them to be sick. Hope this helps x
