This was a realistic day in the life filmed during my fourth / final year as a Chemistry student at Imperial College London. I hope you find this video interesting. :) If you're interested in watching my other uni vlogs, then perhaps check out this playlist:

Hiya! I was a university student studying Chemistry at Imperial College London. I graduated in 2022 and am now working as an industrial research scientist. My field of research is catalysts for steam reforming. This channel mainly consists of videos to do with either life as a university student in the UK, work motivation or study advice. Thank you for checking this video out, it means a lot !

Your lab facilities look so nice! It's cool to see more inorganic/organometallic chemistry content on the internet. Working with inert conditions is quite the challenge, but really fun. Thanks for sharing!

Yea, project progress was much slower compared to people who were doing normal bench top chemistry, but as you said it was an enjoyable challenge! No problem, glad you liked the video :)

Haha I didn't think I would be either with how rusty my video editing skills have become since I started working XD Thanks for supporting the channel despite the lack of new content :)

Why do you have 6 NMR spectrometers in one room? Thats kinda insane. We have like 3 for 300 people…

@@AnDanonky it’s all in one room but it’s shared by the 2000+ researchers at the Imperial White City campus 😂

Why do you wear gloves when operating valves/handles and writing with your pen, even though you are not handling any chemicals?
@chemicalstudies
@chemicalstudies 4 ай бұрын
@@timkrause1925 two reasons - 1) so we don’t create loads of contaminated waste from putting on new gloves every single time we want to write down stuff and 2) it’s safer for everyone to treat everything as contaminated in the labs, then take off the gloves and wash their hands just before leaving the lab.

@@chemicalstudies well I learned the other way around, to only wear gloves when necessary when actively handling chemicals for two reasons - 1) wearing gloves for long periods of time is bad for your hands and you won't always notice when the gloves come into contact with chemicals (gloves are not intended as a long term protectice barrier for your hands anyway, but to be able to take them off or change them quickly if contaminated) and 2) surfaces such as door handles, cabinet/fumehood handles are not contaminated because they are operated with bare hands. Of course, it depends on the layout of the laboratory, which chemicals are used and how the office rooms/desks are separated from the workbenches.
